Hi All
Watched the DVD of "Tears of the Sun" last night, it is a refreshingly good film set in Nigeria around the time of the last military coo. It tells the story of a Navy S.E.A.L team sent to rescue US nationals under heavy resistance.
Bruce Willis plays the lead and supporting actors are well done, there are some superb jungle warfare scenes and the storyline holds out well.
Worth watching.

The ending's typical Hollywood, I found. I got the movie in a 2 for 1 deal at Blockbuster, hoping the R rating meant it'd be realistic and all, but I was disappointed.
The first 3/4 maybe are okay, but overall it's a yawn.
I put it at the same rank as "Basic" (which had a female US Ranger!).
No offense meant.

I was very impressed with the anti-war footing the film had adopted by the end - its quit refreshing to see!!!

I liked how the OC was out on the flight deck using a satphone as planes were landing.
Also the cheesy lines, like the one from the token black guy saying "thank you sir, these are my people."
At the end of the day I thought it was a good film to sit in with the lads and watch with a few cans.

I liked it... thought it was a good watch...
And is worth its weight if it makes people realise what horrible things go on un reported out there...

Aye, you follow orders thats what soldiers do!
I was disappointed by the attack at the end where they all get up and walf forward shooting, that was just silly, what did he think he was doing when he runs dives jumps spins to put down the claymore?
Seeing as how its something in the area of 500 versus 6 or whatever; I'm pretty sure you're going to be overrun.
I thought it was realistic when he lobs the missionarys head off.
As Brucey says, "God left Africa a long time ago."
Even the lord can't save you from an angry mob in the Congo
I also liked the retribution scene when they tear through the village killing the ethnic cleansers. Wish I got to do that in Bosnia, those people make me sooo mad

In all honesty Ben i cant remeber what exactly happned but i do recall seeing that run and pounce w/the claymore and thinking somehting along the lines of "oh yeah, sure.WTF WAS THAT"....
VERY FEW movies imspire me to watch em twice..BHD was the only one i agreed w/ as far as one can agree w/ a movie..after all in the end it is just a movie and entertainment.

I watch it at the weekend and thought it was ok. I can't comment on the military realism but good for touching on subject that seems to have gone on pretty much ignored.
If the situation was to happen in really life (minus the Hollywood stunts etc) what would of been the consequences for Bruce and his SEAL team (the ones left alive).
As far I could see, they disobeyed orders which I thought in the military was a defiant no-no what ever the best intentions ?

I actually bought Basic and Tears of Sun on the same day. Thought they were both good films. Yeah some of the stuff was a bit like, yeah dont think so somehow, but man, its only a film lol. I thought they were both good. As for Basic, that really had me going in several dirrections and as for the ended, well that just had to happen as I thought I was starting to understand the plot lol

I thought Basic was good but the plot just twisted too many times. As for
"give me a Hooah seargeant,-Hooah seargeant" -pure Hollywood
Also I thought women aren`t allowed into the Rangers??
Tears of the Sun -Good film,I heard Bruce Willis was with a Seal Team
for a few months to get SEAL SOP`s, Hand signals and all Seal parlance.
But the bit at the end where there`s 5 or 6 of them fighting 500 was OTT.
