hey everyone!
ok im going to be straight with you all im 19 i work stupid hours from 4pm till 11:45pm and ive wanted to join the one of the forces for quite a long time i applied for the army about a year or so ago when i was fitter than i am now i failed the selection test due to a heart murmer this was nothing once i had it checked up but then i got the job which im t now so i never went back!but its allways played on my mind since as i still got my love to want to join!alot of my life i wanted to join the royal marines its something i would love to do moe than anything regardles of he loss of pay from my job now!but i also have thought about joining the paras but im not physicaly fit at the moment and with the hours i work i find it hard to find time to get fit but im not sure where to start to be totaly honest i cant give up my job otherwise i wouldnt have anywhere to live and i tryed to change my hours....any advice on where to start how to get fit really would be of any help so plz any comments of help or against me that might be able to help me out are welcome i have read alot of the forums in the last couple of hour and alot of people on here have alot more knowlage than me so if anyone can help apprechiated!

What ever you are intended to do will pick you, not you it. I say just go with what you are drawn to and let things happen, you might find yourself in the service or a supervisor in your current job or who knows what, but it comes down to you. You can't ask others what is best for you, that can only come from you.
Where I grew up we had only dirt fields, cattle, and thunderstorms to wreck it all up. Hard work and plenty of poverty. I looked around and saw guys in their 30's on up who'd been in this cycle forever and knew after cutting tomatos one summer this wasn't the life I wanted. I saw pictures of the ocean in national geographic and places who's names I couldn't pronounce, and Jaucque Cousteau flicks on our 6 channel TV. The Navy man came to school and gave us a test in High School and told me I scored well and he'd get me to the ocean. Me and five of my friends didn't have to be asked twice, we joined up the next month open contract (Navy picked our jobs for us) One went to be an aircraft mechanic, 2 constructionmen, one operations specialist the other deckhand and me a Corpsman(medic). It all worked out, I was placed in a job I was or atleast felt lucky to do.
I used to ask my dad when I was in highschool what I should do and he'd tell me "Son you got to find out for yourself".
So I guess I did find out, and one thing is for sure, I got my fill of the ocean and never had to cut another tomato off of a vine.
When I joined up my old man never said nothing, he just smiled. I think he was glad I wasn't going to spend my life tilling fields, hauling lumber and bailing hay.
You got some thinking to do.

I assume you drive/take bus to work to get fit leave for work sooner and Jog or ride a bike wont get you upto RM/Para Standards alone but will get you basic level of fitness up

first of all good luck in whatever you choose to do, i never wanted to join up but went with a friend to hold his hand as he sat the test, a sgt asked me what i wanted to do with my life to which i didnt know the answer, he got me to sit the test and before i knew it i was being drilled around a paradeground at the speed of 1000 startled gazeles, do i regret it??, like shite, my mate failed and ended up in Safeways where he remains now after 20 years, im sure hes happy but has he been to or seen the things i have??, i think not.
think long and hard about where your going and it will probably never happen but if you go out and grab your dreams by the balls then theres no looking back.
if i had the choice of 2 then i would sway towards the marines.
with regards to fitness...........you said you start at 4pm, so what do you do before that??, it takes an hour a day to start with if you want to get fit, so lets say if you got up at 8-9am that gives you enough time to run a marathon so go get your trainers out and live...........good luck

goldie i think your right the more i think about it the more i want to do it but sitting here doing nothing isnt going to get me anywhere i just gotta say lets do it and get myself motivated and do it!

The first thing you must do is to learn how to write. You don't have to be a literary expert to join the forces but you should be at least literate and be able to express yourself. Then learn grammar and spelling, punctuation and comprehension. (Or are they old fashioned terms.)
Then you can think about getting semi-fit. You don't have to be at the peak of physical activity to join the Armed Forces but it would help if you had an active lifestyle. (Playing some sort of sport on a regular basis would help). The Army/Navy/ Air Force will then get you to the fitness level to enable you to do the job in your chosen branch etc.

Heres some tips for ya matey!

Go to bed about 1am after coming home from work and unwinding, get yourself up at about 9am [8 hours kip is more than enough]. Have breakfast then wait 1.5 hours which will take you to about 10:30am, then get your self either at the gym or pounding the ground!

After working out for a few hours you will still have plenty of time to get yourself to work all refreshed knowing what a productive day you've had!
I wish I had your shifts mate there easy! try doing 2 early, 2 late, 2 nights then 2 off whilst fitting in door work aswell!

Ahhhh the youth of today! get on with it mate and stop being lazy.
