Radar systems, IT systems, Communications systems...you name it. Just about anything that carries an electrical current, but doesn't fly.

It's a fantastic trade....awesome training and loads of variety.

There is no such thing as an 'Electrical' technician in the RAF. There was a trade called 'Aircraft Electrical Technician', but that has all recently been changed with the implmentation of 'multi-skilling'.

Electronics Technician
Maintain all equipment on the ground, from radar to missile systems.
Electronics Technicians maintain all the electronic equipment used on ground installations at RAF sites. This includes telecommunications networks such as satellite links, radio and radar equipment used for air navigation, air traffic control and airfield landing aids, and the electronics of surface-to-air missile systems such as the Rapier.

General Technician (Electrical)
Repair and maintain electrical equipment used for aircraft maintenance.
Electrical specialists in the General Technician trade maintain and repair all types of ground electrical equipment used to support aircraft maintenance and ground operations. That means you could be working on vehicle electrical systems, airfield arrestor equipment, ground radar power supplies, medical, dental and photographic equipment and even some domestic electrical equipment. The work is usually carried out in electrical or mechanical transport workshops.

The difference between these jobs...

1. Electronics Technicians get paid at a higher pay band.
2. Electronics Technicians have a wide variety of jobs.
3. Electronics Technicians recieve more training.

Something worth considering....not that I'm saying Gen Tech (E) is a bad trade....it would beat being a civvy electrician hands down!
