stimulants

Post by kwew »

i personally wouldnt use then and never have but theres a lad at my gym who takes them before a work out (legal stimulants of course) and he says he couldnt do half the weights or run anywhere near as long.
so why dont people use them before their PRMC or POC. if they are not illegal what could they say.
does anyone know anything about this matter

stim

Post by oban3 »

The problems with stimulants is that your body comes to rely on most of these. This is fair enough if your just going to work or whatever. But in the field you probably wont have time to take something. The marines want people who can cope without stimulants for this reason. There is also lots of things that can go wrong. Side effects etc....

What do you mean by stimulants mate?

Do you mean creatine and other similar stuff?

Or do you mean anabolic steroids? Although I think these are illegal.

As for why people (well the majority anyway) don't use them before prmc/ poc it is because they do not want to become reliant on them. They will not be able to use at the prmc/ poc or during training, so why use them now? Especially if you can only perform well when you are using them.

As for the legality issue, I'm not sure. But I once got told by someone in the RAF (very different to the RMs I know) that even taking pro-plus - a completely legal stimulant/ caffeine boost - will make you fail a drugs test. Whether this is correct, again, I don't know.

I'd guess that you would have problems if you did use anything serious, as the idea of the PRMC is to test your fitness and determination; not how many chemicals you can afford. As always though, if in doubt ask the AFCO :).

No point in taking any stimulants/chemicals to enhance your training or performance. You've got your whole career ahead of you & that's a long time to keep it up. Just trust in your own abilities & if you don't meet the standard- only 1 thing left to do- TRY HARDER :P

On our PRC we had this discussion come up
with high energy bars/drinks etc.. The Corporal
said that they only work for a short period off time
then you get a lull in energy..
"One minute you will be "Mohammad Bruce Lee I'm Hard"
the next minute you will be my little pony..
Work without the stuff millions have before and
millions will after :o

At the PRMC are you not encouraged to drink Lucozade?
you gotta search within you, you gotta find that inner strength, and just pull that shit out of you, and get that motivation to not give up, and not be a quitter no matter how bad you wanna fall flat on your face

No they encouraged us to get lucozade from the spar and drink loads of the stuff, not for energy but along with water for rehydration !

I drank a bottle before the bottom field aswell but i doubt it did anything lol...

If you are gonna drink the stuff i would definatley reccomend the still lucozade sport, not the fizzy stuff!!
Waiting around until i can go back to Lympstone.

If you are going to work with lucozade, drink a load of sport in the moring and a load of hydroactive at night. (When I go to the PRMC im going to take about 10 of each)

I sometimes drink a couple of cups of coffee before a run because it really does give you some extra energy. Have to drink a load of water though because caffeines a diuretic. I do most of my training on water or lucozade, since I want to be able to work hard without the need for stimulants.

Out of interst Jon, how much does this Lucozade guzzling affect your performance etc, or is it more benficial in terms of recovery? I'm wondering as I stick with water and gallons of tea, and hadn't thought about taking anything special to a PRMC :).

Isotonic drinks like Lucozade (Sport) are meant to be similar to the body's own fluids (hence: isotonic) cos they are full of glucose (carbs) & sodium (electrolytes) & they are meant to speed up the absorption of fluids from your intestine to your bloodstream, so the drink replaces fluid lost in sweat. Plus glucose is absorbed & used as fuel for your muscles. I go running 5 times a week & i always used to have water but i switched to this & it works for me...not sure tho about recovery, seems to have more effect whilst ya training. Glad you took the advice Knew...good lad!! :D

I think that supplements make people rely on them.

If you use supplements during training for your PRMC, and you pass that, then when you start basic I can't see you on exercise pumping yourself full of supplements. The training team want people who have the strength of mind to get a green lid. They do not want people who have to rely on supplements to get them through the training.
It's only pain.
