Yeah, get as much information you can in whatever form before you make your final decision. Also, think long and hard about what you're about to take on.
I'm going to my AFCO later this week probably to start the ball rolling. Or at least speak to someone.

Your 16 and haven't been at school for two years? What have you been doing then?
Nah, dont worry. As long as you've been doing something it probably wont matter (ie: dont say 'ive been sitting off with my mates')
If your serious about joining, read as much about the Marines as you can, and train hard.
The 3 miler has to be done in 22.5 minutes. This sounds difficult, but after a few months of training you should be able to do it every time you go for a run. Upper body strength is also important, as is mental strength (so get used to non stop training).
Im hopefully going to apply this week (been saying that for weeks).

Yeah, same here. Interested to see what this big fuss about some results that apparently my life depends on is about... hehe. Then, I shall visit the AFCO.

5kms is 3 miles. 21 minutes is a good time. During the PRMC, the three miles has to be done in 22.5 minutes. But you should keep on trying to get fitter and fitter to stand the best chance of success.
If you run for 3 miles every day/other day, your body will adapt and you will get better. However, I would recommend you to go on longer runs from time to time to develop your aerobic fitness, heart and lungs. Also do some faster, shorter runs or some fartlek or interval running sessions to develop speed and anaerobic strength.
Build up the endurance of your heart, lungs and muscles and youll be on the road to success.

1 mile = 1.609 km. So 3miles is about 4.8km. I can do it a easily on a running machine, but when it's up and down hills in the rain after doing loads of gym work and your fairly f*cked after 2 days of hell, then it's not so easy. My advise try and join a boxing club for 3-4 months, it's almost an identical style of CV fitness. Gym work however differs in that you get to rest when you want and you generally don't push yourself that much.

Do your pressups in circuits, eg: 3 x 20 with 2minute rest, or after another exercise. Dont just simply do 30 pressups a day, or wait for 20 minutes before you do another set.
Practise both types of press ups (Marine and Civvy)
