Zero, i was a corporal in Royal Marine Cadets.
No you don't have to do a mini-prmc to get in, its aimed a kids who want a taste of things to come, and also to kids who just wanna keep themselves busy (not nessecarily RM potentials).
That said some units do have little fitness tests and the like, but it is frowned upon by the heirarchy.
With referance as to what cadets do, all sorts.
Fieldcraft (the art of blending in with the environment and the like),
Drill.
Weapons handling (learning to look after and shoot a rifle),
Sailing qualifications (being a detachment of the Andrew its an inaugral part of training).
Confidence building (through various camps etc.)
Good citizenship (through charity & community work etc.)
There is a fitness element there also if you crave it, but its extremely restricted becuase you have to have cadet PTI's and members of staff present at all times, no more than 15 press-ups in one go etc..
Hope this helps mate, oh and if your thinking of going in the corps, i would suggest trying out Marine Cadets. It can give some idea (through camps etc.) of what the marines do, and i'll give you a slight edge if you make it down to training in lympstone. We had 3 lads who have all been down there, and come out alive at the other end, two have just come back from Iraq, and ones up in Scotland.

Yes they have Marines cadets, but they are few and far between i think. Dont quote me on that though, if you check up on it, it may be the case there is loads of units
