Am I Stupid or Not?

Just turned down a commission in the army to stay with my platoon as soldier in the TA.

Figured I joined the the TA to get some good quality soldiering in and not fly a desk after 2 years of commanding a platoon.

Now working up towards Potential NCO's course at Catterick. Does anyone think I made the wrong decision? My arse is grass when the OC catches up with me as he put forward himself. I know I could be a fantastic paltoon commader as I have done the pre-Sandhurst prep and did quite well.

Just need a bit of reassurance that I am not a total idiot.

You’re not an idiot. You have done what you think is good for you and your men that you will be leading, plus who joins the TA to sit behind a desk, you could be doing that at work...

Ratty,

Not a total idiot. It depends on where you feel most comfortable and I assume that you can change your mind later on. One of the best officers with whom I ever served, was commissioned from the rank of corporal. He eventually achieved the rank of Lt. Col.

Keep your options open.

Aye - Andy. :D

I would ask you a question if may, Do you think you would make a good Officer?, Do you think you could do a better job as an Officer than some of the prats that are around?. If the answer is yes, then why not try it and change things slowly from that level. Every step you move up the ladder the chance you have of improving things for all those under you.

Good Idea, however a prerequisite for commissioning into the lofty heights of the Officer Corps, is removal of the "Common Sense Node" from the front part of the brain. Therefor any attempt to change from within, is futile. :P :P :P :P :P
