Hey folks,
I was down at my local AFCO applying for the paras when I learned (to my surprise) I had enough a-levels to try for an officer entry, so I took that option...

Just wondering what peoples thoughts on Sandhurst are... I know its a long one - three 14 week courses?

Btw, will they want employers references? Ive only had two P/T jobs before (Ive been self employed mostly) and I dont know what kind of reference Ill get from the latter one as I left without 4 weeks notice...

I'm in my first term at Sandhurst. It can get a bit emotional at times, both physically and mentally. It is not the easy ride that most people think.

I would not worry about employement references too much. they only get considered, and dont carry much weight. The RCB is far more interested in putting you into incredibly uncomfortable stressful scenarios and watching you squirm.

If you are considering joining the army as an officer, as opposed to a soldier, you should know that it is a very different job, and should really look at what you want from the Army. If you want to command and lead, and be more of a manager than a do-er, then join as an officer. If you want to work a specific trade, and develop a sense of family pride with a group of men who will be your friends for life, join as a recruit.

Neither job is better than the other, and you can advance in both careers. Don't get sucked in by the bullshit that to be the best you can be you should ge for officer training, because the army is run by NCO's not officers, at the end of the day.
