OK so what if..........
The Americans hadn't got Independence from us Brits, I wonder how the world would be today, our Tony Blair ruling the roost and GWB being the Governor General of them thar US of A.
British troops in Downtown Baghdad with USA troops in Basrah, the almighty pound outshining the very weakened dollar, the European Bloc trading against the British/US bloc, we still using gallons and pounds (weight) like the USA still do.
...........so what if.............

I know the US has a huge monetary advantage over the rest of us. They also have a huge advantage militarily in terms of equipment.
However, who does the rest of the world actually look to in times of crisis?
Go and look in a mirror!

Shame we aren't the force we used to be though - I found the following bring a smile to my face though
The sun never set on the British Empire...... because the sun sets in the West and the British Empire was in the East.

the song rule britannia comes to mind
Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves:
Britons never will be slaves.
The nations not so blest as thee,
Shall in their turns to tyrants fall;
While thou shalt flourish great and free,
The dread and envy of them all.
Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves:
Britons never will be slaves.
Still mor majestic shalt thou rise,
More dreadful from each foreign stroke;
As the loud blast that tears the skies,
Serves but to root thy native oak.
Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves:
Britons never will be slaves.
just a few verses as its a long ol song ...

Wouldn't that song be great if EVERYONE in Britain were to sing that collectively before every assembly at school or at your work station. Just like the Yanks do with theirs with their right hand across their heart, where the hell have we gone wrong?

Sounds a good idea to me

, but one problem if we did sing our anthem before assembly, immigrants would probably say no we are not british, why should we sing. And then the Government would say NO the immigrants don't have to sing it, they can sing there own anthems, but they can ponce of our country no problem.

Anyone who wants British citizenship must compete the following oath, and pledge their allegiance to the U.K.
OATH
"I, [name], swear by Almighty God that, on becoming a British citizen, I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Her Heirs and Successors according to law."
PLEDGE
"I will give my loyalty to the United Kingdom and respect its rights and freedoms. I will uphold its democratic values. I will observe its laws faithfully and fulfil my duties and obligations as a British citizen."
If they have gone through this process and then decide that they’re not British then they have broken the covenant and the right to be British citizens, and should be ejected from the U.K. right smartish.

im not personally against the idea but which anthem mate? God save the Queen? republicans would probably complain more. and the others are a bit too old fashioned. verses like "wider still and wider may thy bounds be set" sound a bit too warmongerish and imperial for modern society i think. im all in favour of something else tho...

The National Anthem is - God save the Queen
The National Flag is - The Union (without Black strips)
The National Languages are - English, Welsh and the Scottish form of Gaelic
Nowt wrong with that. But trying to suck up to Republicans, immigrants or other minority and PC pressure groups is bollox. You can’t please everybody all the time and trying to do so only diminishes the character and traditions the British have built up over centuries. Change is inevitable, but changing the National Anthem because it upsets a group is change for all the wrong reasons and setting a dangerous precedent.
As for the Americans, if they ever find out we're just regrouping it's gonna mean trouble.

grin someone did a detailed analysis of this here
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Troy/5799/second.htm
the long and short of it was, we gave the us representation in parliament, which eventually grew to a rotation of parliament between the countries. With the resources of the US behind us the dominance of britain is even greater and the empire even bigger, and ww1 is avoided.
Its all made up of course, but a link well worth visiting
