I want to join

Just wondered if you lot could give me some advice.
I want to join, and to be quite honest I only decided about 2 weeks ago. Before this I have always wanted to be a pilot in the RAF. Yes this is good, and I stand a good chance of getting it because Im doing a scholarship etc. But having never giving the marines a thought, I was just focused on that. I have thought about it continuously for two weeks and definitly want to join.
I am fit, but spose I could always get alot fitter. I am a 16, doing my A levels, and a lifeguard and swim teacher in my spare time. I know you can get all these suggested fitness programmes but I want to know what worked for you guys.
I have considered giving up my A levels after doing the AS part of them, and spending a few months working, and getting myself fit, and then going in at 17 and a half. Cant remember if you have to be 18, if so then I could wait till march working, and then go in. What do you think.
If you were my age and had a busy social life, aswell as working and doing lots of school stuff, how did you get fit.
What is the training like. Is it like Lads Army that was on TV. I know I will be alrite on the discipline side of things as I am a sergeant at my ATC squadron.
I am not exactly muscular, but im not a weed. But I want to be Big and wide and stuff. Plus it will help in getting into the clubs up Town.
Reply back when you can.
Cheers pals. Lee

lol, hush my children hush!
You can join at 16 gattle if you want. In regards to training, have a look at the PRMC fitness guide on this board, and since you have alot of time you might as well join some sports teams, serious ones that will get you really fit. Let your recruiter know that you're interested and he'll send you some nice kindle you can use in your survival tin once you join!!

I am polishing off my Nat Deplomer at college at the second and i will be joining after i finish in June. I have given up the opertunity to go to univercity to bring falward my joining date by a few years - thats how much i want it.
If you want it then do it. But it does stay at the back of your mind what you might be missing if you don't get all the qualifications that you could have got.
This is your choice, take it now and forget the A-levels and that, or stay on the education for a while, put of the Royal Marine adventure for a bit but risk getting lazy and end up in some shite office job.
As i said - its your choice, i no what i'm doing...
With regards to fitness, the best one i've seen is that PRMC fitness guide mentioned in another post, i downloaded it and modified bits of it to suit me.
Your best bet is to have a test session - Do as much as you can of each bit i.e: - Run 3 miles as fast as you can, do as many sit-ups, press-ups and pull-ups, etc, etc. Work on your results according to the recomended level (you should be able to at least max out the PRMC scores, but aim for more).
Good luck mate,
JZ

Gattle,
after reading your first post I thought you were a wind up merchant. Do you honestly understand what you are going in to. This is the Royal Marines sonny jim, one of the worlds elite fighting forces. You will have to work and train very very hard and then you'll be sent to kill people

. Its not just about "Becoming Big to get into clubs downtown" and being able to boast to your mates that your rock hard cos your a Royal Marine. Its not a status symbol (well it might be), its a way of life. Have a good think about whether its what you want and whether its for the right reasons....if you think it is, well get your head down and go for it.
Oh and as for your A levels, my opinion is finish them and do as well as you can there is plenty of time for you to go in....
Chow for now

Welcome gattle.
There are plenty of tips, just do a search within "Joining the Royal Marines".
There are plenty of current serving, ex serving, beginners that will give you advice.
Just research into what your going to do and achieve.
Goodluck in whatever you choose.
Why do you want to look big to get into clubs?
It's annoying when you have to walk through doors sidewards due to upper body size.
