As far as i'm aware to be a long range sniper you have to be a regular.
Don't think this specialist job is open to reservists.
Might be wrong, best to ask your local recruitment office, unless anyone else knows on here...

A sniper that uses his ordinary rifle at short range. :P

There is a sharp shooter course run at brecon for the TA. I know a couple of people who have done it & it is supposed to be a pretty good course. Which is the reason why it is oversubscribed & you will have to wait a long time if you want to get on it....

Don’t join the TA thinking you can train as a sniper, if you do then it’s an added bonus, but, after your short course at brecon you probably won’t see a sniper rifle ever again. This in itself should give you an idea of how the TA is run.
