I'm heading down to the Armed forces Careers center in the next few days to apply for the Marines (Finaly, its felt like ages!). I Just got a question or two before i go down there.
1. I'm still in college and i finish next June, i wanna start as soon as i can after college. Can i apply now and start the process?
Becuase i no it will proberbly take at least a few months to get a place on the PRMC anyway and thats after the medical and the rest of it.
2. At the moment here are my fitness stats (considering i havn't started working on upper body stenth properly yet) -
- 3 miles in 22 minutes (just)
- 22 maybe more on a good day PRMC Press-ups
- 30 - 40 maybe more sit-ups
- 1 or 2 PRMC pull-ups
I wanna get to a minimum of this standard-
- 4 miles in 27 minutes (minimum)
- 3 miles in 19/18 minutes
- 60-70 press-ups
- 85+ sit-ups
- 7-8 Pull-ups
How long do you think this standard will take to reach from my current standard at the maximum?
Thanks for all the help people, if i pass a small persentage will be due to your support at this stage.

Jason

Hello,
I claim to be no expert but this I do know, if you want to apply DO IT NOW! Everything takes time and the waiting period goes on for what seems like forever. And throughout the application process you are not held to any contract, meaning you have nothing to lose by getting things started now.
Now my application came from Canada but I am sure it’s fairly the same process, and when it comes down to PRMC (when you finally get to that stage), they basically tell you the earliest date they can book it for you. So if you feel you aren’t ready physically then just request a later date.
You fitness seems to be a good base to work from, so if your aiming for a June PRMC I would think that is enough time to gain the necessary fitness and confidence to put forth your best effort.
You’re going to get out what you put in, so go for what you want and just don’t doubt your abilities.

Get everything out the way mate, if you get a place on a PRMC before June im sure you can still take it and just wait for you main date then? Not too sure mate!
I thought i was struggling wiv my press ups coz it was finding it hard wen i got to 20 but got down there and i flew through them, 54 press ups. AMAZING what adrenaline does!!
Best of Luck!!!

If you follow their PRMC training guidelines you should reach the standard required in 8 weeks from cr*p fitness and strength. If you want to be very confident follow The Royal Marines Circuit Training book by Robin Egar and Dieter Lorraine and the PRMC requirements over 8 weeks.
As you application process till the PRMC will take longer than 8 weeks get applying now.

I applied about a week and half ago and I have my interview on tuesday. I have applied before and they have a record so my perticular case has been very quick. Although i will ask for my PRMC in Late Feb Early Mar 2003. Met a good lad at my written tests had a good laugh. There was me this lad and a female going for Naval MA. The female did not pass. Me and the other lad did. Got my interview on Wednesday again

Thanks guys.
Do you do the writen test straight away or do they set a date for that like the interview and the medical, etc?
Yea i proberbly will follow the RM fitness guide, i'll just make a few modifications to it becuase my fitness is all over the place, e.g i'm good a some things sh*t at others. Infact i'll just make my own based on there one, it'll be easier.
So if I apply tomorrow (Monday) I should be able to get a PRMC date for late May or June'ish sort of time, and get all the rest of it done like medical and interview between now and then. Dandy.
Thanks again lads. Its funny how it sinks in when you actually are going for it, after so many years of just looking at the leaflets and the books and waiting for your time!

Well i had my interview today and although he was happy to continue my application there was a "Only If" I cut my debts down. I mean come on thats a small part of the reason i want to join. I will be cutting my cost of living (Sky, Phone, Etc Etc) to which i will be able to pay more to my loans. The cheek of them saying get rid of ur sky etc etc when i havent even made it in yet. They say dont give up work till you are garunteed a place so why should i give up personnel things if im not in?If i actually made it I would be getting rid of all that anyway. Kind of makes me think B****x to it all.

How much do you want that Elite green hat?
It was proberbly only a suggestion from them, you just gotta nod politly to them and agree, act it. Of course its up to you if you wanna keep you personal stuff, but what there trying to say id that if you want in then you might have to sort some stuff out, and there trying to help.
Congrats on the success at this stage, medical next isn't it?
I got my Recrute (writen) selection test booked for 14th Janurary, can't wait to get it all out the way. Theres a mate in my class who wants to join the Navy and he's got his on the same day at the same time! Which is nice.
Whats the interview like? Can't be all that bad?
