Just heard confirmed report of a chopper going down in Kuwait. There were Royal Marines on board. My deepest sympathies to relatives and friends of those who lost their lives. This is awful.

You would think we'd get used to this, losing members of our 'family' in the Corps, but we don't, and we never will.

My family and I heard the news at breakfast this morning, and the kids gave me an extra hug as they left for school. I just remember the others that have gone before, never truly forgotten, but especially remembered at a time like this. True heroes indeed. Stand at ease Royal, job done.

Their families need our support, now, and in the future, because, unfortunately, the general public will move on to the next news topic when all this is over. That's human nature, and natural when one isn't as close to what has happened as we all are. We can help the families by not speculating on which unit guys are from until it is absolute FACT. There is enough guess work on the media, and I am sure we will have families reading our posts searching for clarity, and re-assurance.

I just wish we could do more.
