Afternoon,

Wondering if anyone could shed some light on this role. Ive searched the RN website but it only gives a brief description. Google doesnt bring up much either....

Id like to know, specific roles of a seamen specialist, what training is involved, what deployments are likely, and how many women in different ports you can bone!

Any advice or knowledge would be great.

Cheers!

hello richard.

Ill tell you straight you will spend time painting the ship, unfortunately these pieces of machinery you live on need looking after.

you will work directly under the buffer as buffers party or you may be placed on a part of ship to work where general maintenance is carried out.

When i was on a ship though the buffer used to use the seaman specialists for more specific maintenance IE looking after the seaboats, winches, sea survival equipment and other various specialist equipment specific to seamanship evolutions.

when you pass out raleigh and go to your specialist training you ill spend some more time in raleigh learning more seamanship indepth. you will then go to HMS collingwood shore establishment where you will spend time learning tactical communications, morse code, flags and stuff like that.

when you join your ship you will become a watch keeper and spend alot of time on the bridge working under a senior seaman as his bosuns mate, steering the ship and generally working the bridge and helping out the officer of the watch with everyday running of the ship. you may also be placed on a cours to drive th royal navy's seabaots used for baording operations and man overboard drills. you will also be a swimmer of the watch where it will be you who has the job of jumping into the sea an rescuing someone if they were to fall overboard...all practiced regularly incase of it happening.

i hope this is of help good luck
