Random question - Does anyone know whether or not women are now allowed to serve on subs?
Heard something on the subject recently, and would just like it either confirmed or denied.

Not at the moment.

Mixed crew, 2/3 months working living in a metal tube!!

IMHO not a good idea at all, can see a host of problems. :o
Re-design the boat to start with.

Didn't think so - I know some other countries have women on subs, but didn't think anything had changed for us.
Never mind!
I really wouldn't want to spend 10 weeks underwater anyway!

I'll confirm tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure it's a no no.
I also think there is something about radiation.

It was just an opportunity that came up at work, nobody's got their name down for it, but I'm not sure I'd want to do it anyway.
Was just trying to find out if the rules had changed, as a few people mentioned something being in the news about it a few weeks ago.

I have just confirmed now.
In last few weeks there has been a female on a nuke, she didn't apparently
do the full tour.
There is nothing secret about this, otherwise I wouldn't be posting here.

That's probably the one Rover, thanks.

I'm sure one of the guys will eventually volunteer, or the RN will find someone from elsewhere to do the job. Like I said, 10 weeks underwater doesn't really appeal to me anyway, just wanted to clear up whether it was even possible.
Cheers for the responses!

Women aren't allowed to join the Submarine Service just yet due to the contaminants on board which are known to damage a woman's foetus. No kidding!
