A little help is needed please. We currently have a new student on campus who is saying he served in the Cheshires and on operations abroad. There are concerns about whether he is being lagit or not.

While watching the pointless BBC programme about bullying in the Army, the reporter had his number start 30. Does anyone know where service numbers are at the moment and when they jumped to the 3s.

I've not met the student as yet but will at some point. If I get into discussion with him I would like to see what he says when I drop the normal "GOTCHA" question.

My fathers number started 24...... back in '67 and mine started 2502... back in '93.

Anyne help? the first 3 or 4 digits of anyone who has been in since about 2003 would give me some kind of indication.

Yeah mate. New recruits service numbers are now starting with 30

They started with 25 though around 2005 onwards so it's more likely to be closer to that than the 3's as I think they only started when the Army changed to JPA (or whatever it's called).

The new guys we are getting are 30.

They have been starting with 25 since the early 1990's mate. I dont know why they have gone from 25 to 30 instead of 26 but they have. Ive heard of new lads with 30 as the start of there service number.

But hey who really gives a fark

As for JPA dont get me started. Still waiting for LSSA from months ago. The old system would of had it nipped by now

Yeah, understood, but all I meant was if the guy is genuine then his service number would be 25 rather than 30 since if he'd served and been on ops then he wouldn't have been a new recruit. I got my service number in 2005, which is why I suggested if he'd joined in 2003 it'd be likely to be close to mine.

I see where your coming from now mate. Your right if he had been in long enough to of been on Operational tours then yes he would not be a 30.

Cheers for all that guys. Like I say, I've not met this student yet and he may well be above board. However, from what I've heard he's saying some suspect things.

Something else you maybe able to help me with. Did the Cheshires ever do a tour of Afghanistan before they were amalgamated? From what I have found (which is very little) I believe they never did.

They certainly did a tour on 'Telic', but as for 'ghaners', I dont think so.

Well the numbers at the moment all start with 300 but you will have to get some else to say when they started at 300.

In the mid 1950's they started with 231....................
