Hello all! don't know if this as been asked before but i couldn't find a topic on it so i thought i create a new one. I will be 17 when i apply to join the Royal Marines so i wont be spending much time learning how to drive. So i was thinking when i apply and if i get through the 32 at CTC will i be able to take my driving lessons/test in the Royal Marines and will it cost as much as civvy street? or do you have to use civvy street instructors? thanks for reading

You should get a driving licence out of it, especially with the current thearter we ar eoperating in we need drivers as much for the Rovers as well as specialist kit, DST is a sausage factory for drivers (honkin place full of Perce recruits), any way i digress you should also get a conversion course to green fleet which incorparates driving off road driving at night convoy procedure, amphibious driving and the dreaded camming out of a vehicle as well as some basic mechanics.

hello fellas,
i was also gonna post somthing smiliar to this topic,
so if all goes well and a recruit passes his 30week/32 week RMC training is he then given the "option" to learn to drive? or is it a continuation of the course?
Also is this done Once you are assigned to a troop? or as an added course ontop of your 30 weeker?
cheers

Roger your last harry!
Theres a clue somewhere in there im sure!!
But yes, once you`ve passed out and gone to your relivant units, coys, troops etc you get sent to DST to drive...
theres not a lot of options about it from what i understand, why would you not want to learn to drive for free??

On it after leave Harry, Down to see what delights Bovington has to offer!!
Appently the best way to wreck a Viking is not closing the doors properly and trying to swim them!! some blokes will try anything to get kicked off course!

Take the course and see where you end up ..... Bovington's good -
and it's near England.....
I remember carrying an Austin Champ from Benghazi to Tripoli
because of the sand and the three thousand miles of electric wiring
under the hood when it 'broke down' - and we pushed three tonners
over six foot lengths of steel for the same reasons - ( we had to go back
for those, sort of shuttle movement ) put me off driving for the rest of my
life - find a girl who'll do your driving I say .....
Hope you get a motorbike better than the 1937 BSA sidevalves that we had
We did get around though ..... and the boots were cool -
( DR's get sexy trousers ) .....
