Hello, I'm Carl, i'm applying for the Int Corps, should be starting in March, aslong as there's no hiccups on Selection, everything else is sorted, and the AFCO reckon i should be on it, as i did all the selection and most of the cadre for 4para in July. (I was working as a fitness instructor at the time and was attracted by the challenge, plus i have always felt like i wanted to join the forces, but then i dug deeper to come to my decision on Intel).

I was just wondering what you could tell me about the Int Corps, especially postings/duties on tour etc.
Or just general nuggets of info you can throw at me.

Cheers Guys.

Worked with loads over the years mate and still work with some now, not a job for everyone and can be boring depending on which route you take. Horses for courses i suppose but good luck with it anyway :-)

RMP is my 2nd choice actually, what's your view on that in comparison?

Spent a lot of time working with G2 Int Cells at Bde and Div HQs. Things have obviously moved on but expect to spend a LOT of time sticking maps together ready for exercise (or operational) briefings, being the 'Lumocolour Op' for the map prodders and sticking big red or blue arrows onto briefing map overlays and crawling over map tables to shift them about a bit. Also, Jane's publications of whatever specialisation (Comms/kit/tactics) become your bible. If you've got a number of brain cells gathered in the right place and are able to 'remember things' you should be alright.

A lot more real-time int to work with these days rather than just old Red Army Recognition posters. Postings are of the small detachment sort to HQs and you'd generally be working with Arty Int and Engr Int bods.. who don't appreciate you telling them what ‘enemy’ Engr kit looks like …coz they ALREADY FERKIN’ WELL KNOW!.

If you tell them that you have your own PC they’ll expect you to have http://www.janes.com/news/defence/

surely it can't all be backroom type stuff tho ??

i know i'll be at chicsands, so does that mean i'll be working with the RAF too or just dossing down with the WRENS ?

A definite positive for green slime is a higher proportion of decent skirt than most cap badges. RLC may have higher proportion but they're all pot-bellied hoofers who like driving trucks and have tatoos up and down the insides of their legs. ("Harry was here" type)

Apologies to "all those 'truckers' out there"......

And there is still the opportunity to become a PTI as part of the Int Corps yeh?

im generally a bit mad on fitness so i'm quite interested in anything like that, hence why when i first thought of the forces i thought marines/paras.
But somethin said to put my grey stuff to good use.

It's more likely to be digital these days, with online simulation and digital mapping. Although a manual back-up is a decent idea. Very embarrassing when the Div Comd shows up for his decision brief and the power goes out!

That colation stuff would cause me to slit my writs in no time. About as intersteting as Star Treck or billiards!

Last March I had a decent Int cell in my CP. The head slime wizard was just that. He had the imagination of a hyperactive three year old and dreamed in technicolour. I mean that all in a good way because he contributed a huge amount to the enemy picture on the fly and therefore the INTSUMS were much more realistic than the usual crap which is about as palatable as chewing cardboard. Hard workers and keen as mustard. Just a little odd! Each to his own, though.

Ground visualisations, terrain briefs, fly-throughs: All that sort of on-line stuff is supplied by the RE Geo lads with their bits of kit. Can drape real-time satellite imagery over digital mapping with elevation data, punch in the co-ords of 'A to B' and get the Comd to sit in front of a screen and 'it's just like he's there, flying just above the ground!' All very X-box 360 if you ask me....

My mate was a trained killer (chef) did his AACC (59) PCoy (7RHA) and fried eggs under fire.

He then went APTC, and spends his time in Ron Hills or ski gear, rank of WO2 now I think, lost track of him to be honest, ever since the shite speech he gave at my wedding, still I divorced her and kept mates with him.

So yeh everything is possible, even pancakes :o

You have no idea how I feel when I take my Ron Hills out of the drawer and put them back again because they don`t make my bum look big in them.
I actually do have a big bum,
