Muzzle up or down?

What are your standard on a foot-patrol?
I have always learned that muzzle must point downwards allways.
Only if you are taking aim or searching for targets the muzzle is up.
The reason i'm asking is because in a Norwegian forum they have this tread, named Muzzle or Down, one of the longest treads on that forum..
Apparently they don't have any SOP's on the subject.
" sometimes i patrol the muzzle up sometimes down"...
" if there is snow i have the muzzle up"
" see, the US seals also do it(a video from a junglepatrol)."
And this is conscripts most of them.
Anyone..??

Depends what you're muzzling.
I prefer up. But that's just me.
Blimey, is that the time?

We patrolled muzzle down, but that was only a 3-day training exercise, and I'm a Crab, so wouldn't know about SOPs!

Is Ron the only active soldier in here....

How do YOU handle YOUR rifle/carabin/submachinegun/pistol..??
If you are advancing through an open hostile terrain?
Will your rifle point 15-30 degrees downwards or upwards??

Way back when, I was told muzzle down unless somewhere where any ND's hitting the ground would be likely to ricochet (i.e. on concrete or similar hard surface).
