hi guys
I need help with royal marine standard burpee's.
In australia we call this a burpee
http://www.rosstraining.com/articles/burpeeclip.htm
Notice the push up and the jump.
what does the marines call a burpee?
is it from standing to squat to legs out then squat to stand up?
I only ask because i was re reading nigel foster's making of a royal he he said for poc to ace burpee's in the fitness test the need to do 45 in 1min.
I dont think any1 could do that many the way we do them down here unless we are just soft
so any help lads

yep I think what you've posted is about right for a burpee, I surely hope the average isn't 45 in a minute!
I think your clip is right when it says 12-15 per 30 seconds as an upper average, but there will always be one or two chaps in the marines that will surprise you and probably hit that mark.

you'll not find them in any tests, so a specific number isn't needed. However, you'll be given them to do in a warm up, and it will be used with other exercises, for example 10 sit ups - 10 press ups - 10 burpees
but it's not a test of numbers or technique, so no need to worry about it my friend.

Graham,
When Nigel Foster wrote his book the standard fitness benchmark was the USMC test, which included press ups, pull ups, sit ups, burpees and a sprint. The maximum score for burpees was 45 in a minute. However burpees for the USMC test were performed differently from your example.
From the standing position down to a squat - hands on the deck knees at the elbow, legs and feet back to the press up position - arms straight, feet return to the squat position, then recover to the standing position. No press up or jump.
The test was, as I remember:
Best effort at each discipline.
Pull ups - Max score 18 - no time limit
Situps - Max score 80 - 1 minute
Press ups - Max score 60 - 1 minute
Burpees - Max score 45 - 1 minute
Sprints 5 x 60m - Max score under 1 minute
