Rest in Peace my friend. Every man an Emporer.
British soldier killed in Iraq on 24 November 2006
24 Nov 06

It is with deep regret that the Ministry of Defence must confirm the death of a British soldier in Iraq, following a planned search and detention operation in Basra City earlier today, Friday 24 November 2006.

The soldier sustained gunshot wounds during the operation and was evacuated to a nearby military hospital. Despite the best possible medical care, the soldier later died from his injuries.

The soldier was a member of the Parachute Regiment, on secondment to Headquarters Multinational Division South East, Iraq.

Next of kin have been informed and have asked for a period of 24 hours in which to inform wider members of the family before details of his identity are released.

The MoD is grateful for the media’s co-operation in respecting the family’s privacy at this difficult time

I think after reading a article in the newspaper this 'Para' was part of the SAS.

RIP.

they always state the unit that the soldier came from before they join SAS.

When they said the Parachute Regiment my thoughts were 1 Para as they are now attached to the SAS, and who has heard any thing about 1 Para over the last year, it is if they have fallen of the face of the earth

Q: Why have they attached para's to the SAS?

Tab, that was also my imediate thought upon reading it.
Have a look in the Para Regt. album on page 2, thats the only photo I have seen of them since they went off the radar... other than that, just the odd article here and there on their exploits.

grope2, look up Special Forces Support Group (SFSG)

I do not think any of us should speculate what unit he was from. SAS or not, this should not be disclosed. He did a bloody good job in Basra and so did his colleagues. We should praise them all for that. May all the others be as brave as him.

RIP

Very sad news, condolences to his family and friends this must be a terribly hard time for them.

With regards the lack of info regarding 1 Para. It's fairly obvious that we, the public, are not going to hear much about them for the foreseeable future due to their new role, as since they now support SF if we know where and what they are doing then by default we know where and what the SF are doing too.

We should probably just leave it at that.
