Hi, i like pies
I'm 16 years old , 17 in a month, and i've just started my AS levels and i've been thinking for a long time about what i want to do, and the Military looks like my best bet, plus aswell my dad was in RAF for 17years and my grandad(mums dad) and several others in the family so it's something i'd like to carry on but not necessarily in the RAF.
So i just thought i'd come and join in with some discussions.

Probably marines, i did and still do want to be a pilot in the navy but i've got colour blindness, not bad though, i have never been tested for it officialy, but i can't do them damn ishihara tests but can do the lantern test, but no chance of that career path.
I think i'm going to stear clear of the RAF, but you never know, as my dad doesn't rate them so highly anymore, and well the army is another thing i dont like the sound of.

Hey Pies. The Royal Marines do some solid training. A friend of mine (21, married and with a 1 yr old child) is currently in Scotland and has been in some very harsh environments but it was great he said. Tell yourself you can do it, and you will.

I was wondering if any one could help me with my runniing, i've read lots of stuff of running for a minute and walking for two or something like that and building it up and walking for less time, so shuld i do that or just go for long hard runs, i live on an easte surrounded by an 6 mileroad that's in a big square, and how many miles would i have to be aiming for.
Sorry i dont right in paragraphs much.
Thanks all.

Hey Pies, I run to keep fit and belong to a running club. PM me any time on running and stuff. I have a good plan for you to do which is suited for the track but can be adjusted to any terrain. Street or cross-country. PM me buddy, I'll help you out anytime! Advice, anything!

But yeah listen to the oldies. They've lived military longer than I have.

What you do with your life is up to you really.
Each service has it's plus's and minuses as is the case in Civvy Street.
So think long and hard about what you really really want to do. The Royal Marines tend to go to quite a few hairy places ditto the Paras when it come to quick deployments at very short notice.
The regular Infantry tend to be used in conjuntion with the Armour where it takes time to deploy all the gear. But once in postion and the safety catch is pulled they will be there with all the guns blazing. Like they did during the invasion of Iraq.
If you do plumb for the Royal Marines your going to have 32 weeks of hard graft in the classroom, the Gym, the Drill square and the field. What I mean is that it's not all running and jumping 100% of the time. You can be binned for not being able to add up or speak and write the written word as much as not being able to run 9 miles with 35lb of fighting order and a rifle in 90 minutes.
And don't think that once you've hacked that it is going to be a breeze from then on. Your going to be working hard and playing hard regardless of what you do in the Corp. Be you a Stores Accountant or a Swimmer Canoeist. If the shit hits the fan you are a Royal Marines Commando first and your trade will take a backseat.

Pies,
Good luck with what ever you decide to join. You have time on your side,
so get yourself as much fitness and knowledge as you can then you'll be prepared when the time comes.
