Guantanamo Bay

Post by Johnny5 »

Can anyone shed any light on how three prisoners in the so called high security section of Guantanamo bay managed to hang themselves? Bit of a rookie mistake on the Americans part isn’t it? Of course this news has sparked of all the Human rights campaigners and the media are having a whale of a time exploiting it. Sky news did this poll and the majority result was “No” the idea of saying yes to me personally seems absurd. I am interested to see what the result is here.

Rookie mistake, I don't know... Something on the order of what happened in '57 to Ben M'hdi and Boumendjel whilst in French custody, I don't know either.

Perhaps the government should be more forthcoming about the why and how of Guantanamo prison, and confirm whether it is true that some individuals released from there returned to the fight against coalition forces in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Your poll doesn't have an option for 'undecided'.

Personally I think it comes down to whether you think we are the 'good' guys and have the high moral ground, in the fight aginst terror.

The place has been a public relation disaster for the US and the West.
The perceived use of torture, humilation of prisoners and possible inhuman treatment without recourse to legal redress is not the way forward, in my opion. Notice I said percievd...Truth is always the first casualty in war.

If we as a group of countries consider us the guys in the 'white hats' then morally we need to show the world our systems are fair and just.

I'm not talking about the law but about justice and that does not mean being percieved, by the general public, as acting like the SS did in france.

Whether or not the US is acting okay in Guantanamo bay, that is not how the rest of the world is vieweing the place.

We can win the battle but lose the war if percieved as acting the same as the thugs we are fighting. That does not mean being weak. we need the support and help of the moslem people of what ever nationality as the danger is to both the West and the East, of all nationalities and whatever religous group.

Just fell off me soapbox now so it's time for a wet.....

I totally agree with you Jos. Situation in this detention facility has sparked protests and raised eyebrows all over the world, of course being considered a human rights scandal. For someone to commit suicide there I get the impression that maybe they are treated so bad there, torture techniques, sleep deprivation and all.

Opinions are bound to differ on this subject. If you have been involved with action against the Terrorist faction, rather than a recognised Military set up,and see at first hand the atrocities they commit on their own people as well as on their enemies, you may feel that they should never have been captured, but shot on sight.

If,on the other hand, you have never seen such action, your views will be coloured by the horror stories put out by the Liberal left and various Human rights lawyers, who have an axe to grind.

I believe that to imprison, and then release these people, who are in the camp for the reason that they were being naughty, doing things that good boys don't do,is a bad move.I go for the shoot on sight method, saves a lot of time and trouble.

Terrorists recognize no court of law or human rights.
They have no recourse to the Geneva Convention and as such have no rights under the Constitution of the United States. The sooner they meet Allah the better.Obama is already running into trouble regarding repatriation as the host countries do not want them back.
Why should they as they get three squares a day and shelter at their sworn enemies expense.I think we are way to good to this vermin but this is just my opinion and not that of MF.

No offense,obviously.

Problem is we are so liberal these day's we cannot fry anyone.
Used to be"If you cant do the time don't do the crime"The death penalty used to be interstate wide but now unfortunately not. Most states have a life sentence for murder instead of leathal injection.I know which I would go for,but then I'm a little biased :P
