ive applied for the Royal Marines and have my RT on wednesday im just wondering. i was reading at the end of the practice booklet and it said about an RE test for Articers Aprentices? .. now does that apply for the Assault engineer or Just for Royal Navy ???

Just Tiff I think. Engineers are from the RE who pass the All Arms.

So it really should not affect me ?

I was an AE for a while and I just put in for it once I had been in the unit for a year, no special tests were required although the ability to make a decent wet was a good thing to have under your belt

The book is given to all people who want to join the royal navy or royal marines and the bit for the apprentiship just applys for the people who are applying for the apprentiship as they do a different test and that branch is only open to people joining the navy.

I don't think AEs have to be tiff clever. They probably have to do some sort of aptitude though. Ask and ye shall find young Jedi. I'm sure the AFCO will point you in the right direction (assuming it isn't an ossifer you ask )

I'd wait till you're on your way to passing out of Lympstone before worrying too much about what specialisation to go for. You'll most probably change your mind anyway.




Having said that, does anyone know much about the Direct Specialisation Scheme?

I would 2nd that you have to walk before you can run, you may find the corps isnt for you, or see another branch you become intrested in.

Refrence the Direct Specialisation Scheme its basicly your option when you pass out to go straight into a specialisation such as Sigs,Antitanks etc.. but dont expect to go straight on to a course as there may be a waiting list, or if there is a course with available spaces as happened to me i went Anti-tanks out of training, but spent the first 4 months as a GD waiting for the first available course, it may not be running for a month or so in which case they will send you on draft awaitng a course meaning you will Grav it for a while.In cases like Anti- tanks you will probabley find yourself in a tank det rather than with a grav troop as it will benefit you more and give you a bit of hands on.

ive been interested in the marines since i was 16 im now 18 .. and i am really comited to getting in .. if i fail the prmc ill try again. i am aware of the Standards of the Royal Marines but it thats wat i want to do and i enjoy most of the things that they do anyways... i want to join the military but marines is deffinatly my first choice!!
