Hey lads, Sounds really stupid sorry if anyone thinks this post is a waste of time. Basicly i really, really want to join the marines, dad says he will sign the consent. He's an ex booty and thinks 16 is to young and the right age is around 18-19. Im just worried about going to apply, possibly failing during training (i have faith although just really worried) then it would just break me, although i really want to sign up now, do you get anychances if you do not sucseed first time? Anyways, please reply if this really is not a waste of time. Many Thanks

Loads of us joined at 16 or 17. Your dad more than likely did as well. Why not get some GCSES first? Then apply.

I always wanted to join too, parents advised against it at 16.

I went to College, then Uni and after that I still never applied! I got a job, one where I get lots of free drinks, have millions of semi naked teenage girls around me and get to meet big name DJs.

All the memories and experiences I`ve had, I can pretty much guarantee wouldnt have been possible if I joined at 16.

I`m just starting to get the ball rolling at the age of 23..........well, theres only so many semi naked teenage girls you can look at before it gets boring!

G, I joined at 16 1/2 , as did loads of young guys in the 70's. Recently my sons friend went in at 171/2 and although he passed out of training OK, he was the youngest by over a year in his troop. He felt that they were physically fitter than him and the extra year gave them a bit more experience to put up with the stresses of training. Get some GCSE's and a bit of college under your belt, 18 will soon come around

Have I missed something - or don't they do Junior Entrants/Squads any more? They were the perfect means of entry for 16 year olds.

I was young, yes but I soon learnt the Corps ethos and was a blank sheet. I had superb instructors who thrashed us every day and I hated it... in retrospect; I loved it and would do it again at the drop of a hat!
Different people are different; you might not be ready at 16 or you could be more than ready now. Only you know; but listen to advice; take counsel; analyse; reason; decide. Only you can do this.

Well, i have already got my GCSES and have recently started as a brick laborer to get extra fitness, i really want to join soon, think i need a serious think on it tho. I will deffo join, just when i seriously dont know

Fella if you want to join then join, you seem keen enough i would advise living life a bit more but its your choice, i had a choice i was gona travel and work in states for a while or join the corps, guess which i chose!

Havnt regreted it, i work at Lympshvitz (Commando Training Centre) if you want any phamphlets or info let me know, PM me your address and i can drop em off i live in Plymouth aswell, your dad still probably has connections in the corps (you never realy leave the family) though you could get most of it from carears office just make sure you see a Bootneck and not some crusty old matlow that dosnt have a clue what hes on about they will tell you any old shit, and give you all the wrong advice.I will be able to tell you exactley what the PRMC comprises of, If i can be necky as well can i give you a card, if you do decide to join i will get a recruiting bounty if you pass week 15.

Dont worry to much about your age the corps will mature you very rapidly, i have seen perce recruits and they act like 16 year old dickheads hanground in gangs on corners being nobbers your average 16 year old RM recruit acts completley diffrent

I vote Shrek gets pinged as newbie godfather. He looks after all the lads trying to join the Corps and when they pass week 15 we all get a share.

alright mate dnt worry about failing i joined at 16 im up at 45 been here since june age dont really make a difference all 17 of us who passed out were under 22

I joined at 16 as you know and id advise against it bud. All these old lot say they joined at 16 but they are a different generation, a lot of people going in now are about 19-20+ where as they all used to be around 16-19 and depends on the people in your troop but you'll just get seen as a little kid. Like my father says, they arent they people he would have liked to seen in his corp in his day, but still, that was a different time. Nothing is to say you cant do it at 16, if its for you just crack on, or you could always join up see if its for you, leave and come back a later date like mwuh and serveral others i know, at least then you know what to expect!

The fact is that in the fifties, sixties and seventies there were Junior Marine Troops. Anyone joining the Corp under the age of 17 years and 6 months in them days joined as a Junior Marine at Deal and spent a fair few weeks at Deal prior to going up to CTCRM.

I am not sure of the length of the training for Juniors but it was a lot more than the 32 weeks which now seems to be the norm in the Corp.

So getting a few GCSE's and maybe a couple of A levels seems like a good idea these days. 17/18/19 I reckon would be a good age to join these days.
