Hi any RECENTLY passed Marines. what martial arts (if any) training and self defense training hand to hand combat do you receive ? My 16 year old son wants to join the Royal Marines after graduation and is comparing the Royal Marine training to the US Marine training. He is in Hapkido and Kick-boxing to stay fit. His stepdad ex-Royal Marine (1963-1972) still LOOKS fit and still knows a few moves after all these years. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks very much.

Think its mainly adapted Fairburn system using a lot of Ju-jitsu. Its a system originally taught in the 40's and as far as I know is very effective.
I'm a big fan of kickboxing (Muay Thai, Jeet-Kune Do/Jun Fuan and Savate) but with boots, webbing etc the mobility it needs isn't there.
Wouldn't base too much of his decision on that alone - RM has loads of organised clubs and competitions for martial arts so he'll find that he can practice different arts once he has green lid.
US Marines have nicer weather.
