654 CS Squad - April 1956

As reported in the Globe and Buster last issue we are going for our
fiftieth anniversary Re-union in 2006.

As some of us are walking a little more slowly but with dignity we are
announcing early. ( We also want to find as many as possible prior to 2006).
It may take us longer to get there - but we'll get there......

Anyone who has knowledge of our 654 CS Squad members please relay to them that we would like to meet up again - We can waver the 2006 bit
if anyone would like to bid for an earlier meet as a freeby.....
We don't HAVE to wait just for the sake of observing formalities !

The undersigned - and - Tom Salt, Pete Coad, John Fisher, Stu Allen,
Harry Seaton, Colin Warden, Johnny Ashworth, Jock Dunbar and we've
just found George Loveridge in Oz - hey man, that's ten.....

We may also try the Football Supporters Clubs around the country if
we don't receive any response here ....
we'll flash names on the large screens !

We have Clive List now too - and - it is rumoured Parham....!

We're meeting up at the Country Club for the Reunion next weekend.
654 members and their Carers will meet behind the Drill Shed -

( We've seen too much of the inside !).

Arrangements ( rough ) will be made for next year's Fiftieth Anniversary.

I will be staying in the Cloisters for a knees up for the first few days from
Wednesday 7th.

Anyone knowing a 654 member is encouraged to spread the buzz -

the 479 King's Squad,April 1947 will be holding their squad reunion in the phone box outside of the main gate Pompey dockyard???.

Come Friday the 9th Sept morning I shall be traveling by Train from Peterborough to Exeter St Davids changing trains at 'Brum' New St,Fully armed with me 'Bag Rat' Pork Pie and a bag of Pork scratchings just in case I get some Shi'ite b'stard sitting oposite or along side,I did request when I booked the seat on board 'Tommy the Tank Engine' that I wasn't partial to those of the rag head variety sharing my space? the person on the other end of the phone muttered something about racial harmony.So the Packet of Pork scratchings and Pork pie should come in handy,but knowing my luck I would probably be chucked off the train.

I will raise a glass or two to all you Owd buggers this Saturday. As it is I'm having a Mini reunion on the 17th in Wrexham. Am meeting up with me Oppo whom I have known since I first joined 40 in Feb 1974. A possible two to three others may turn to as well.

Trogg, I was 1 year and 4 months old when you joined. I really hope you all have a cracking good time Shipmates. Don't forget now; lots of Phots please. No Tounges mind!

Also, Al Logan now has a shop in Exmouth at the Pier Head (2 Shelley Court) where you can buy more medals!

I'll keep this thread up a bit....... It is really about 654 - but whatever.....

The RMA Reunion was enough to make a grown man feel the tide coming
in whilst on the parade ground with about four hundred other old geezers.

Those who have done this RMA Reunion marching band stuff before will be
used to it - I was not !

To stand in the middle bit of four hundred men and sing ' Eternal Father
strong to save' and ' Praise my soul the King of Heaven' all the while
having a man with an enormous Welsh type baritone voice guiding us on
was fantastic. Everyone sang with great enthusiasm. I suppose all of you
practice at football matches and stuff like that - singing "Elton John is a
homosexual" etc..... but this was, for me, a grand experience.

When the off duty lads at Commando had lined up in the Drill Shed for an
impromptu applauding session as we marched off I think we grew a bit
taller for each pace we took. And the lump ( I at least), had in my throat
( from the heavy dew and threatening humidity) grew larger.....

I would think that some others will write a thread on the RMA Reunion in
the 'Correct' page - however it would be remiss of me not to say how
impressed I was at everyones performance..... AND my own.
A film was made I believe - and if I know JR it will be available for purchase shortly..... JR can fix anything. A true man of action.

JR fixed my accommodation in the Cloisters, fixed transport with friendly
oppos, fixed 'food vouchers' ( no bag ration with boiled eggs there )
and generally looked after me - provided me with grockle and made me
feel at home..... Thanks JR - you're a gentleman.

Try listening to Lord Nelson's Prayer, The Royal Naval Prayer and The
Royal Marines Prayer loudly rendered by a LARGE group of men all
reciting "in step" - you'll be amazed - As I was.....

I'm going to do it again - Next Year - the Sixtieth RMA Reunion.
