On December 7, 1941 the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor which started World War II in the Pacific. Today in the US it isn't even news anymore and there is barely a mention of it. Our World War II veterans are dying an average of 1,000 a week and our national cemeteries are expanding every year. Just think about all the changes that have taken place in the military the past 60 years: Korea, Vietnam, Gulf, and now this.
Wouldn't it be nice if some time in the future we could all follow the example of Costa Rica: abolish the armed forces because they are no longer needed. Our veterans' organizations pray often that they will run out of elegible members.
Now we're fighting enemies with no uniforms or national identity. Will it ever end?

Isn't news? That's odd, I watched CNN carry Pearl Harbor memorial coverage live from Pearl Harbor for about an hour today. They were getting their feed from the History network which was nothing but Pearl Harbor today. Only the wilfully ignorant don't know about it.

That's if u live in the Western side of the Atlanic. I saw very little info about the pearl habour rememberance.

Defiant, I was responding from/to an American point of view (Canada... close enough). I wouldn't expect someone overseas to note or care quite as much about Pearl Harbor as an American.

I believe that Britain is aware, though do not commemorate the day, - certainly my generation are, it is true to say though that younger generations around the world may see a distorted view of Pearl due to History being re-written by Hollywood in the recent Film by the Title "Pearl Harbour" - Something Hollywood has been doing for years I saw another film U-571 which portrayed an American Submarine Heroically capturing the German "Enigma" machine. From my recollection this was in fact a British Submarine crews heroic action which is now belittled…

I may not know the excact day it happened but i know that by luck the US carrier fleet wasnt in pearl habour when the Japs blew it to pieces.
