A. E. Housman (1859-1936)

Here dead lie we because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung
. Life to be sure, is nothing much to lose;
But young men think it is, and we were young.

William Shakespeare (1564-1616)

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead!
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favored rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect.
King Henry the Fifth (1598-1600), Act: III, Scene: i, Line: 1

(I think this may have already been posted already buts its still a good one)

This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,--
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.

William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616), "King Richard II", Act 2 scene 1

Then whatever will restrain
the coward reasoning in my brain?
I think it will be that I am blind to see
the whole performance and what the end will be.

Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it.

My Dads favourite sayings and oddities:
People who point at their wrist while asking for the time.... I know where my watch is pal.

"Oh you want to have your cake and eat it too". Too right! What good is a cake if you can't eat it?

He very much hates it when people say "It's always the last place you look". Of course it is. Why would you keep looking after you've found it? Do people do this? Who and where are they?

"Can I ask you a question?". Didn't really give me a choice there, did you sunshine?

"life is short". What the hell?? Life is the longest dam*n thing anyone ever does!! What can you do that's longer?

"Has the bus come yet?". If the bus came would I be standing here, would I?

'Is that nice?' No it's really revolting I always eat food I hate.

All men dream but not equally.

The dreamers of the day are dangerous men because they dream their dreams with open eyes to make their dreams come true.

Some more words of wisdom from George Dubyah:

The vast majority of our imports come from outside the country

If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure.

One word sums up probably the responsibility of any Governor, and that one word is 'to be prepared'

I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future.

The future will be better tomorrow.

We're going to have the best educated American people in the world.

We have a firm commitment to NATO, we are a part of NATO. We have a firm commitment to Europe. We are a part of Europe.

Public speaking is very easy.

We are ready for any unforeseen event that may or may not occur.

For NASA, space is still a high priority.

Quite frankly, teachers are the only profession that teach our children.

It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it.

It's time for the human race to enter the solar system.

I stand by all the misstatements that I've made.
