So far I think the moderators have done a great job since I’ve been a member, which is one of the main reasons I stick around and am here most days now. There are a few members how ever that do get on my nerves (some of the American ones) but this is no reason to leave the forum and miss out on allot of valuable and unique information that can be gained from this site.
I have no problem with paying the £5 as said before, but I do agree with gash hand when he says he hasn’t seen many offensive posts. Maybe this is because I’m thick skinned and what may upset or annoy someone else, just goes over my head, or maybe its because these posts are deleted before I get a chance to read them???

Lew and Gash are both nearly correct. With Harry being 8 hours ahead of us and Sticks and me working alternately over here, we have a fairly good handle on what is posted. It's true, we read virtually everything that is posted.
If an offensive post is placed in a forum we either delete it in total or delete the nauseus part, and state publicly why we have taken action. The poster is then PMd and asked to be reasonable. This worked well for a while. However things have changed and we have been receiving very abusive PMs and emails from real drongos. These are people that we would not spend time on normally. We gave Airborne 3 separate chances, we were all genuinely concerned that he needed advice for his career. He had started 3 or 4 accounts with different names and was abusing other users of the forums.
He is not alone. Some of the rubbish posted by recent users has prompted us to adopt a hardline stance. One warning, public and private, then offski. This may seem totally against the principles of the net, but as stated by H the intent is to protect you and provide an enjoyable experience here. We have to remember that we have wives, children and other families viewing the content.
The Walter Mittys are one thing, the abusive no-necks are quite another.
There is an alternative to charging, and that is to enable the moderators to pull the plug immediately on any poster who is abusive or contravenes the general rules.
I've posted the same on Joining the RM, as most of our younger users tend to remain there. Some of their responses are extremely helpful and give an alternative insight into this problem.
I forgot to reply to Mavericks point about me being rude to him. I believe I was hormonal and having a bad time coping with a topic which had the enchanting question as a subject line, "Which is best, RM or US Marine." This sort of topic was leading to the moderators receiving requests online and via PM to pull the topic and bin it. We were responding to the users of the site, and not just applying our own prejudices.
Gash and a few others were giving as good as they got with Airborne and his cohorts. It's probably fun baiting the idiot, but some of his posts were abusive and published when a moderator was not online, consequently when we did log on we found online requests for Airborne etc to be ditched and PMs asking for the same thing.
This topic is developing into a clear lower deck and advisory session. Any other points please.

Thanks for the info. It's a pity that we've lost some good people because of the actions of a few nobbers - who don't last long anyway.
I would check out the replies to the muslim lady - but wouldn't know how to find them Doh!
Tigress,
I'd hope you could put the condescending replies behind you and rejoin the 'fold'. My mission in life is not to let people who p**s me off affect what I do or how I do it.
Mind you, you girls can be soooo b**chy. Not a thing that affects us guys, you understand.

I'm with Sissypuss on this one, come back. Your input has always been intelligent/caustic and entertaining, My better half was a Naval Nurse so I like to think I have a handle on NN's. A sense of humour seemed to be a Prerequisite. (better half met me in Stonehouse, Ward C1 full of broken bones and very bored servicemen)

I don't think I have ever been moderated, I certainly haven't had a curt PM from any of the guys to tell me I've transgressed and I like to think that it is because I stick to my own rules of conduct. Basically I disapprove of foul language on an open site such as this, we have ladies amongst our site friends and I have never thought it polite to use such language in their presence (swear like a trooper away from them). Comments in bad taste meant to hurt or insult are also not on in my book. Insults in the normal Bootie wind-up manner are usually apparent and taken in good part. They are also much of what makes the site an enjoyment to partake of.
Apart from that, yes, I do find some posts annoying but I have never actually felt incensed or insulted, everyone has a right to an opinion and, I hope, a right to air it. If I don't agree I either respond or tune them out. I don't have to read every post and if the poster is on my personal s**t list I often just don't open their posts.
To conclude, can I just say that none of the ex-service are on said list, and neither are any of the very welcome ladies (except perhaps Jules for standing me up at Silverstone, and on my birthday too sob, sob). Generally I appreciate and respect my cyber friends and try to act accordingly.

Cosmetically Challenged? Epidermically Reluctant? Endocrinologically Disastrous?
Good point, don't tell me we are going to have to turn PC and be nice to people!

Go to your doc and ask for some tablets called tetralysal 300 and this will help with your spots!!! On the other hand you could stop eating crap i.e. fast food chocolate and fizzy drinks... just a thought

Ive been quite involved in forums etc in the past and one of the best methods for stopping people from spoiling them is to introduce a grace period...
This is where you have to join the forum and be a member for xx days or weeks before youre allowed to post. There is a plugin for phpBB which does this.
Im sure members who have a genuine interest and legitimate need for the forums wont mind this, but it will weed out those just bored and looking for somewhere to spam.
