im a geen jacket cadet and damn proud of, we actually jave the most battle honours in the british army, we were the first to use rifles, we invented camouflage(well in britain at least, rumour has it we stole it from the indians) by wearing green uniforms as opposed to the red. we are the only regiment in the british army(beside LI but they are a sister reg.) to still use the bugle and we march at a much faster pace than other regiments. i think its fair to say that green jackets are the elite of the british army. considering i have such pride as a cadet imagine the pride of a reg?
i feel i must reply to these aligations of green jackets being thugs, the reason tthey get in so many fights is probably cos of the great pride they take in themsleves and theyre regiment, if u say sumthing bout the RGJ ure gonna get lynched by a green jacket at the end of the day, bit thuggish but on the other quite impressive.
ps. sum1 mntioned that the RGJ hav no regimental colours, we do, red black and green. we also do take pride in our history hence the use of the bugle.

Not that I'm trying to get at you or anything but I'd be carefull about saying "we" when refering to the RG, you are a cadet remember not an actual member of the regiment. The RGJ go through 26 weeks of training to earn the honour of calling themselves members of The Royal Green Jackets, cadets don't. I don't know if you've seen some of the other threads about cadets but there are people who get a bit earked (rightly so) about this kind of thing.
How old are you by the way, why not join the actual regiment?

Oh the RGJ..........i was in Osnabruck Germany in the 90's with these and to be honest most were a good bunch of lads, good JNCO'S AND SNCO'S but a lot of the privates made the inmates i now look after angelic.
weekends in downtown osnabruck was fun fun fun when the "green slime" as we called them were out on the lash, always fighting with anything that moved and when no other squaddies could be found between each other, i had a good working relationship with the guard commanders as i was popping in every other hour dropping one of the lads of for a weekends jail.
When i first joined up i was a driver before going to RMP so i know what the typical squaddie does on a night out as i did most of it and more myself, because of this i would try to never nick anyone for things i would have or did do as a lad but the green jackets used to push this to to line many a time and if im honest i probably made more arrests from the green jackets than any other unit.
Saying that i wouldn't want to put anyone off joining them as most units have the crew of naughty boys doing the same sort of thing, the question is do you want to be part of it or do you want to be like most, a good soldier ?

well i enrolled in the TA rgj 2 weeks ago and have been accepted so hopefully i should be at davies st(RGJ TA centre) by august!
i agree with u on the cadet thing. i suppose its cos im so used to arguing with other units about how we(RGJ cadets) kick ass. we won the swift and bold comp. this year by a landslide!

Fair enough, carry on then.
If you want some advice on the TA though it'd be join the regulars, you can't lounge around during the week but at least you know what you're supposed to be doing, something I've not figured out for the past 6 months.
Hows it going then, have you done all the medical and got kit, you know all the boring stuff? When do you start your mods then?

Army reserve eh? Seems to describe the role better I suppose, but I thought there already was an "army reserve", ex regs who stay signed on or something after they leave or something.

The RGJ sounds like my ideal regiment. As soon as I am 18 thats were I'm going.
Bastard parents won't sign my Army application (im 16) they want me to do A Levels. And I'm not so Please don't tell me to. Need to pay Mum rent now! Grrrr!

I am doing my a-levels. i am going to start my second year of a-levels in september 2004. It is a good idea you do a-levels mate even if you are thinking of joining as a soldier. I am going to try to get in as an officer without a degree, but if that fails then soldier in the marines it is

if you dont wanna do a levels do something more fun like an apprenticeship...just get some higher education under your wing for when you leave the army or if it falls through
but thats just my advice and noone really pays attention to me

Maybe if you could spell, people might pay more attention to you. But i say only MIGHT!!
