it sounds like your chuggin along nicely. The instructors are getting you from A to B and although you know in your mind what you want to do, Id put money on that the instuctors have now got it into their heads who the wheat are from the chaff, not matter how mean and nasty they may come across. They wont be wanting you to go as at this stage you are still in there and (your words - putting in max effort). That will be noted you know and that is one of the qualities that makes a good squaddie - putting in the effort no matter what, without complaint. im pressuming your at the end of whats called basic now, with that in mind all the warry stuff comes into play and the instructors lighten up a notch (just think the funniest times from the staff on basic and multiply it somewhat). You will be learning and doing the stuff that attracted you to it in the first place.its game on. when i done recruits personally i couldnt stand it but then my nickname was grandad as i was a lot older then the others. i didnt mix well with the young uns at first and had one or two scraps, but then it just clicked and made friends for life. iv always said you should give something 6month to decide whether its for you or not, fair one not applicable here in your case. i left home at 16 from sunny leeds to go to southampton to be an apprentice power cable jointer. i was homesick all of those months but i toughed it and decided at the death it werent for me. my old man was army for 22 year and he kinda instilled those stubborn qualities in me. what im saying is that you have toughed out the worst part and held your head high have you ever thought that you may be actually good at the job? the next part of training is about you being moulded or taught the good stuff . its no holiday camp but you wont be treated like sh*te (as much) as before. i personally took joy from seeing lads jack as it made me feel stronger and made me want to progress, but then iv always wanted to be in the lead pack, perhaps deep down you have this mentality???

They were unfit for army service? Why is that? Was it because they had a medical down at Catterick and something cropped up?

Thanks for that gunner. I been thinking alot and i want to change force to the police, not sure on where i stand with that i think im just going to have to go along with my DAOR, wait until im 18 then apply for the police. The main reason i want to leave is being away from family, its just something i cannot stand at all no matter what anybody says.

J.fazza im not entirely sure but i think it was because they didnt peform and just monged it everyday.

Im in week 12 now n ive not found it that hard, aslong as your fit enough n willing to learn u will have no problems. I enjoy the beastings, they only make u fitter

Its not hard just demanding. Week 1-6 days are long, up at 5.30 bed at 1am. You learn alot, week 7 just gone by, had grenade WHT; swim test; steeplechase; bayonet 1(be afraid); practice apwt on the dcct and signals/map reading lessons. I didnt do bayonet 1 but i watched and trust me its quite hellish, you'll never want to hear the words 'heaven' and 'hell' again. Week 8 on monday, few lectures and on tuesday to friday is intro ex 4. I have my interview about leaving on tuesday so i think i miss intro 4. Any questions please ask, i dont want to put anyone off joining but just think long and hard before applying because if you do what i did it wastes your time, there time and there money.

ahh bayonet training. the dogs dangly bits and bread n butter. done it in 4 para briefly. RAF Regt its basically an excuse for the instructors to beast you, it can last ALL day.
