How classy to mention Spike Milligan! a military man at one time and a writer of top notch poetry!
I find his one about the Baboon who wanted to fly to the sun (or was it the moon?) quite good for running to. As I pound my flabby bod' into shape I recite the parts I know ''...Mile after mile he galloped in style, but never once left the ground, your flying too slow said a passing crow, try reaching the speed of sound..." If that starts to lose effect I start chanting the Postman Pat theme

Here's one to sing to your pre-school bairns;
Postman Pat
Postman Pat
Postman Pat ran over his cat
Blood and guts went flying
Pat was nearly crying
He's never seen a cat as flat as that.
Hope they like it!

Fools are full of everything,
Rubbish, Shite and Crap,
Soldiers are full of everything to,
Laughter, pain and memories,
Of the goodtimes and the bad,
Do you wonder why I feel so sad?

I believe Spike's Gravestone read's"Under This Sod Lies Another One"
The Artist formerly known as Artiste can probably back me up on that.
