Isn't it amazing how Sharpe went from being an infantry officer to leading a disastrous patrol behind enemy lines in Iraq?

My mate left for Blackpool this morning (very early about 4) he had 3 massive bags full of his boots, cloths to lumber all the way up there with. He's got a nice 5 - 6 hour train joinery to look forward to.
Any one else have friends in RGJ ??

He found it hard, but he wasn’t the most disciplined of men. He was in for just over two years, and then washed out, he thought of them all as hard bastards and mentioned on a few occasions of how they would fight with other regiments and the public on a Friday night from time to time...

he seems to look back on it now wishing he had tried harder with it... he is also disappointed that I want to be a Para and not a RGJ but ohh well...

I got a call from my mate that's up in Blackpool last night, he was telling me what a dump Blackpool is. I myself have been there only once and found it ok but I was only there for a few days. Any way as he got off the phone to me 3 blokes I guess from Blackpool jumped him, they did no damage. He phoned me an out 2 hours later and told me what had happened, I could not help but laugh

, I said what did you expect, if you are going to tell me how shit the place is just make sure your not around the locals.
From every ones personal experience do civilians from the North and South give a service man much grief if he not from around that area. I mean without being provoked.
But apart from that he say's that the first week was boring they did not do much, but since then he has been working his bullocks off.

I've worked with RGJ lads COP and AYT on a couple of occasions and they've always held their own.
They pride themselves on their professionalism and I'd say on the whole, a good bunch of lads.
All th best to those heading for a sunnier climate.

After basic training for RGJ do all new recruits get posted to 1 RGJ or do some get sent to 2 RGJ and some to 1 RGJ ?

Came across the RGJ in NI in 1987. My impressions of them are unprofessional, cowardly, undisciplined and scruffy. This was back in 87, and things may have changed.
Have operated with other Army Units and Regiments who I hold in high regard i.e Int Corps, Queens, L.I., RE, RA etc. My advice would be to think very hard and consider all options before joining the RGJ.

Thanks for the your input Jim T, but as that was 16 years ago I should think that buy now the Royal Green Jackets would be a different regiment to the one you worked with. Or maybe not, but my friend who's in the RGJ for about a year now he seem's to be a professional and disciplined soldier, well to me any way.

Is anyone here right now involved in the serial of training that is going on for the RGJ? My little brother is. He doesn't take shit and from knowing the lads I work with seems to think they are a decent bunch of lads about the same the same quality
.
