The SAS: are u tough enough showed civilains what kinda life the SAS does. Many didnt understand the huge task they had signed up to do. Some had given up on the first day others got to the interrogation and some failed due to medical conditions. The last of of the people did understand that the work of the forces is not as easy as it looks and after 10 days some people were talking it seriously and showed good potention.

Another thing to remember is that the 'elite' dont go running around guns blazing at anything that moves. They run 30 miles in set up an OP recce it for 2 weeks, run out again or maybe just maybe take out the target. It seems that people are only focusing on the actual combat not the sitting in the jungle being eaten by the lovely wildlife and eating from ratpacks.

The main thing that the SAS: are u tough enough did give the civies was to clean their kit. All they done was to do the physical stuff but to do a hard days training then have to clean off all the crap would mentally take it out of people because many service personell can tell u , cleaning kit is an arse, usually after a weeks or 2 weeks exercise.

I see that Deaf Ant has already adopted some pongo bad habits. Nobody seems to have told him that you keep your kit clean in the field, not wait for Endex.

He'll be manhandling himself in his basher next!

Got to do both mate keep everything clean as possible in the feild but then you gotta clean it all meticulously and hand verything back in after a long excercise and its this that can be real hard due to being knackered and the last thing you wanna do i clean and hand kit in you just wanna slep.

Eagle, where about in Canada do you live? I am also considering joining the British military and would not discourage you. However joining the military in your own country is a big decision, let alone choosing to go around the world to a new country and all the adjustments that go along with that and then joining the military which you have no real idea if that is the career you weant. My adivice is to you is to join the reserves here in Canada for a couple of years, go infantry and do your basic and infantry training and maybe a machinegun course or recce. After this experience you would have a much better appreciation for what a career in the military would entail, even though you will only be doining part time. Not only that but the skills you have learned will assist you in your training if you later choose to pursue a military career in Britain. Prepare as best you can before any decision. I am currently in the Army reserves in Canada and any information you want on that I'll be more than happy to try and answer.

Paras or RM?

Haven't seen this forum for a while so I'm wondering if you made your final decision? If not, why not have a look at the RAF regiment?

I'm not a Rockape so I couldn't even begin to tell you what it's like but the RAF's website should be able to give you more info.

Whatever you decide it's important you enjoy it...... :turn-l:
