What I may have done, amidst a confusion melee, is to pre-empt response to anyone who might have taken offence.

So regards to the stickies, as it has been seen that paratrooper01 made a plausible error, why don't you, in forces speak, wind your neck in.

They're changing the PJFT for RM this October to a similar 3 miles run on a treadmill. I would've thought that would only filter out the guys that fail the 3 miler on the PRMC, not necessarily change that much about RT. No one wants to waste their time chasing a dream that's never going to happen, it's almost as if we need new ideas on selection for any regiment or corps with high failure rates.

It does make a difference, thats why we still do it. High failure rates, are because the required level is high and thats why we lose a lot of people be they going for Para Regt or RM. Its tough but so's life, and lets face it the 3 miler is only the start...

The high failure rates are linked to high standards but not exclusively. The wrong calibre of people are still making it to RT. The PJFT improvements, theoretically increase the numbers passing PRMC. The same guys that passed the PRMC before, still made it into a troop only to walk away half way through.

Guys give all sorts of reasons for failing Recruit Training: Medical discharge, Culture shock, Lack of progress to learn, Failure to meet timings, Family emergencies, Undisclosed reasons, and probably a load more experienced PTI's could speak of.

I don't have all the answers. I'm wondering if anyone has any better ideas on selection?

One solution could be to revert to what they used to do during the draft, effectively turn the 32 weeks into a an unconditional sentence that you will complete. You will not escape from here sunshine!

Nice try but you are talking about volunteers, if blokes don't like it for whatever reason you cannot make them stay.

Actually it already works like that in a sense. If you leave RT for any reason and then decide to return, you waive your right to PVR so are there for the full stretch.
