And you're right very few Challenger II's have been destroyed/disabled due to enemy action but this was one of them.

I think that the only other Challenger knocked out was by another Challenger when it strayed into it's path during a dust storm in Iraq during the months of of the second campaign there

Ah yeah it was damaged but not destroyed

, according to the MOD report on that incident the guns calibrations was knocked out and also some armour damage. The driver got some shrapnal wounds but thats it.

Are you sure? any evidence to back it up? I was told by a trooper (good friend) he was fine.

Very sure. May well be that only 1 or 2 have been destroyed, but one of them was by an IED in Basra. I believe the official word was 'damaged', but after seeing the pictures, I don't think it was much use to anyone after that.
Was mostly just pointing out that bored_stupid was being unusually astute for a newbie. What he wrote is spot on.
