Hello / Thinking about enlisting
I found the best way to break the news to the family and friends was not to dwell on the media side of the army with Afghanistan and that but to push the peacekeeping and aid side of the army. Look at things that don't involve combat and your family may be more willing to accept you joining up.

BARB test : passed 82
Medical : Broke my wrist so 12 months wait before reapply.

For someone who tops 5'6", you have to be @ 12st 11lbs to start the application process.
thats what i was told, maybe you quoted the basic training weight, but i certainly remember being told last week that i should be 12st 11lbs before i could apply, and there on in, commit myself....
to the army, not an asylum.....
