You really do have to pace yourself at the start of the 1.5 miler, ignore what everyone else is doing and set off at a nice steady pace that you can maintain. You want to have enough left in the tanks to sprint the last 200m home. If you have been training to a particular song and you can sing it in your head as you go, then I've found that helped me the first time I did it when I joined up. After that you'll be doing so much PT that you'll naturally get faster anyway...
I started off at just under 13 mins (which is fine before anyone comments; as I'm female and over 25, 13 mins was what I was allowed) and 10 weeks later was down to 10:28.

I think you get issued boots for the assault course, steeple chase and the trainasium mucker. I'm sure the run will be done in trainers because in the diary 'paraprep1' did, he said you went into the gym first (2 minutes press up's and sit up's) then off on the run. And you won't wear boots in the gym!

NOT GOOD ADVICE. If you have enough left in you to sprint the last 200m then you havent been working hard enough on the other 2200m, and you might just find yourself going round again

Was about to say....
Yes I agree, from my own experience Id go flat out at the start, then hold a fast pace, then all out ill my eyeballs bled at the finish. We would always get warned about 'coasting it'.

I was under the impression that you can only get 9 minutes 40 seconds if you are able to get 116kg on the static lift e.g. over 18 stone. Everone else had to get under 9 minutes 18seconds. Whats the crack?

what exactly is a static lift

static lift is wher you bend your legs and keep ur back straight and grab on to a handle and left has hard as you can but it doesnt move any where... it tells the computer how much you can lift in weight ......
and yes ypu should be sprinting the last 200m as a used to run for Edinburgh city scotland ......

That maybe the case for you then mate, but beleive me, if your sprinting at the end in Depot, some serious questions will be asked by the PTI and you will probably go around again or be doing something else to make you out of breath. It's not to mess you around, just to make sure you put maximum effort in all the way round! At the end of the day, your muckers might need you in a firefight one day, and you need to be running flat out to get there, ALL the way there!
