I've actually always wondered that myself...as far as I aware...no they don't due to the fact that they are simply the Regiment's Band/Musicians.

I have two friends in the Para Band perhaps I could find out through them sometime...William.

what instrument do ya play then?

do you have to do a phase 2 or they just join you up to a band?

I play Trumpet, Cornet, Bugle & Drums

Phase 2 = Sent to Kneller Hall (Royal Military School of Music) here in Twickenham, where all Musician's are sent to train...depending on the Musician it can be 4 months or max 2 years training.

Then after completetion of Kneller Hall Phase 3 = Regimental/Corps Band

How come they get to wear the Maroon Beret and a Parachute Regiment Cap badge? Take it they don't have to do there "Jumps" either?

Does it really matter about what Beret they wear???? They are the Band of the Parachute Regiment????

Why don't they wear the corps of army music cap badge on the marroon beret instead? The medics etc attached to the paras wear their own capbadges

They are the Band of The Parachute Regiment so they wear what the Regiment wears like all Regiment/Corps Bands...

I do aggree with what your saying as obvs the Para's are an elite Regt etc...

But other elite Regiments like the Grenadier Guards or any of the Guard's Regt's Bands should therefore not wear the Guards Regiment cap badges or stable belt etc...

Every Band follows it's Regt or Corps dress code...so beret, cap badge, stable belt, uniform etc...

I understand that if you get into say the Para Band that's a cheap way of wearing the Beret...I might myself be in an elite Regt's Band but I would be extremely proud of that & would never go around claiming that I was a Para myself if you understand.

You know a real Para from a Para Musician via the Corps of Army Music TRF Badge and having no Para Wings badge etc...btw I'm not here to argue!!! so please don't have a go at me :( William

I know what you mean but you are told from day one that you have to earn the right to wear the beret and the cap badge. It shows you have passed P-Coy and have proven your worth.

I am in no way saying that any member of the Regiments band could not pass P-Coy or they are not cracking soldiers. However I think they should, as HRH said, wear a different cap badge maybe, as all others attached to the Para's do. :)
