We never did bayonet training at Lichfield mind you that was late 80's and it might have changed back then. Had SLR's but never anything on the end of them!

I suppose if you stabbed someone really hard with the end of an SLR it would hurt, might even break skin owww

LOL! I am sure I would rather take someone out from 200yrds with a bullett than 12inches with a bayonet, can't say I would have looked forward to doing that

Seriously - its a valid point, bods are issued bayonets the MoD purchases at great expense for reasons other than picking corned beef hash out of your teeth. They are there (among other reasons) for when the time comes to close in and kill your enemy face to face - as has happened in Iraq.

So b*ll*cks to what that PTI says - he should know better.

I know your not in a position to question what people tell you right now - but keep an open mind and don't swallow everything whole outside of the obvious training that is. At some point in your career you will hopefully be in a position to not say such things.

Excuse me mate but you probaby arent very popular with RM recruits. You must be a pongo or something but not everyone is strong enough to join the Marines. And just because your jealous of us, doesnt mean you should put our NCO's down like that because quite frankly they would drop you. RM TILL I DIE

I've watched this thread with interest. Basically your bayonet is the last resort when you've got no ammo left.

When a firefight starts the momentum begins and it goes on until you are either dead or you come out the other side.

If you run out of rounds you would fix bayonets and tear and rip away at anything that got in your path until it was finished.

Thats it really.

I'd be seriously worried if there was someone in my platoon banging on about bayonet training and how much he'd like to slice someone to pieces.

But I'd be even happier he was on my side....

So I'm jealous of you and thats why I'm putting your NCO's down? Wrong -I'm not putting your NCO down - I'm rebuking ANY bone statement but it just so happens that most of the bone stuff we're having put to us is coming from the nods clearly wondering on the validity of the statement they've heard.

Obviously someone thought it needed a little thought or it would not have been posted in the first place would it? Not only that most people are more or less echoing the sentiment albeit in a more tactful manner.

For what its worth I've heard all sorts of crap from all sorts of NCO's, SNCO's, WO's and officers and would you beleive some of them I have corrected? Probably not - but then Ive not been a recruit for some time now.

Just clarify for me though: were exactly did I put anyone down?

1) Yeah I know - Though we all knows what happens when people who know different read it.

I found Jord123's posted attack on Spooky to be crass and immature.
On the forum we are all equal to express our opinions in a democratic
manner. The fact that I was once an officer is of no consequence.
However one of the endearing facts about Royal is their general modesty
in dealing with the Army. We all complement each other and finally if
anyone objects to what I say pleas do not feel inhibited to take a pop at me.

I'm not referring to training. I'm referring to reality in a CQB situation. The reason you have a bayonet is so that you have the option of using it.

Also: I concur with Chas. Lets debate this sensibly and not single out people who have taken a different route in the military or in civvie life. At the end of the day, after you join the forces, we are all brothers in arms when it comes to fighting a conflict together.

Note: We then come into unit pride, but that's another story!!
