Hey Doc,
Aren't you a bit old for selection? And you'd look a bit odd climbing up VW valley in your desert pumps.
Lowas all the way - trust the Germans.

I look odd anywhere Cpt, nowt new there bud.
I wore full artic kit in the Gulf so any rag head that happened upon me with an Al Jazera TV crew and a samuria sword would mistake me for french and send me on my merry non aggressive way

Hey Doc,
Are you sure you joined the right service as a boy? You wouldn't look out of place at a gun club b-b-q in that get up.
South African Lesbian Assualt vests are the norm. Well, them and the odd wife-beater.

Hanwags all the way.
They are a thing of beauty, and look great with all sorts of casualware and also in more formal situations from baptisms to bar-mitzvas. I often accessorise mine with some pretty little tinsle instead of laces.
Also being German they are a great aid to navigation as they always pull towards Poland.
You know what you're getting with the Germans.

Holy fark! Isn't that second coat dry yet?
I see the gay tag team are at it again!
Ooh Rodney, you're so rough!
Can y'all say, "Speer Gold Dot"?

Hello anglo-saxon,
Please don't call my sexuality into question - it's so very fragile at the moment.
Nice post by the way - really worthwhile.
Regards,
CS.

Hmmm.... i was naive to put pro-boots into this. i was thinking more along the lines of standardisation, for example; if your Hanwags fall apart halfway down the fan, which is a distint possiblility... the chances of you getting another pair from the QM might be somewhat slim. But i would agree with you on the Danners i had a pair a year or two back, they were something else.

mmm... Danners- very heavy. And expensive. I can't think of anyone wearing them on my course. In fact I can't think of any one wearing them for the last 5 years.
Hanwags- better- but still got a fair bit of weight in them. Probably the most popular boots about at the moment. Excellent quality, as a few posters have mentioned.
However, the boots for selection are undoubtably Altberg defender lights. Good quality and light. Like they say, a pound on the feet is worth five on the back.
Now, someone posted saying "Boots don't matter- you should just get on with it."
I'll put it this way. The course has lots to be 'getting on with' anyway. Anything you can do to make yourself that little bit faster/more comfortable/ lift your morale improves your chances of passing. Even if all those boots do is improve your ego, then that counts.
On selection, you should do every little thing you can do to help yourself. And that includes getting yourself a pair of Altbergs.

Altbergs are pretty spiffy, espesh seeing as you can get them made to measure.
Just the ticket if you've got biff feet like me

I think you'll find that these fit the bill perfectly. Lightweight and high quality with a more than ample heel. Although they don't have goretex they are quick drying. I've heard rumours that they will soon become standard issue for marines as they look great when you are naked.

I'm sure Royal will be pleased to see the new kit they are to be issued with.
I, however, am devastated...I've long wished for a pair of Jimmy Choos in that particular shade of pink.
They would be most fetching with a certain frock in my wardrobe.
