Chris,

A nod is a recruit. I think it comes from the way recruits are always nodding off to sleep. I think YOs (young officers in training) are called yo-yos, but not too sure on this one. :o

ahh

Yeah, dannyd is right. Nod is the nickcname given to royal marine recruits. After a few weeks when the lack of sleep and intense training regime set in, in lectures you'll see everyone falling asleep and waking up. Ever been so tired and when you're trying to stay awake your head falls down as you fall asleep then your head falling wakes you up? Well everyone will be doing that in lecture halls and it looks like EVERYONE is nodding, really damn funny hehe. That#s the way i understand the term nod anyway.

I dunno really why they didn't let us in pubs if they knew we were nods, I think they just think that we would make trouble, which we never did since we'd get thrown outta training for that kind of crap. Instead it was mostly drunken civvies that started the fights, thinking they could take a pub full of nods on, heh, there's normally at least one nod on "shark" (lookout), that keeps the other guys in line. Exeter ain't that bad though really. If you wanna get into the other pubs with better talent, i found going in in ones and twos to be best, and if they ask for ID definitely do not show yer marine ID, drivers license or some other ID like passport (be careful with er passport!). The most reliable way to get into most places is student, in particular female students, get to know a few they can get you in anywhere!! Muahaha

hey

ML's are some of the fittest marines in the corps due to the high physical demands of their job. Therefore they are likely to beast you hard frequently, as they have had so many beastings themselves.

i think the term nod came from the fact that new recruits use to bolt up right when ever some came in the room. like nodding dogs.. i may be wrong i did read this in the book "first into action". im just really typing this from memory.. so please correct me if i am wrong.. but i do this this is the jist of it.

just wondering what did you feel was the worst part of training..

IE a certain ex or foundation.....

cheers, davo

also the best part?

Ahh so many choices

Foundation was the most boring......Doing phys down the bottom field was the most nerve wrecking.......Being dunked in a small lake (deep pool) with all yer gear while it's near freezing outta water was pretty bad during test ex (happens on other exercises too) was killer ...... sentry duty on exercises durign winter had it's moments heh.

Best parts were basically anything we were doing while pissed heh, helicopter drills were good too.

Reverse Snobbery.

As for meeting people, I met a guy from the forum called "Sexy_Andy", lets just say he was far from sexy and had the fitness of a drunk penguin.
