There, there it happens to us all in time.

£4 to do your dhobi! We got £11 a week. So fill up the bath and wash the lot in one go. (green sheets were very nice but tended to annoy the training team) More money for the Nods Ball saturday. And the Dutchy visit after sorting your kit out.

Most of the women in CTCRM were not interested in NODs. Just single NCO's with a flash car.

The NAAFI barmaids had all the Trained Marines and NCO's to choose from. So recruit "Wet behind the ears" had no chance!

Yeh they are still after the NCOs. Nods can dream though. Most the lads didn't use the £4 service. I washed most my kit in the sinks with a brush and elbow grease. Used the Dhobi last night so I could join the other lads at Jollys for several post course celebratory drinks.

Dhobi girls indeed, I'll bet they even have showers in the same building as the living quarters and central heating instead of pot bellied stoves. Lympstone without it's old huts cannot be quite the same. They were building the newer blocks when I was there (784 Squad 1962/63) and, as though we didn't have enough exercise, a regular bet was who could get to the top of the scaffolding and back (no ladders were left conveniently out to help). I was there at CTC last July for the sigs/tels reunion and I have to say I hard a hard time recognising the place away from the main drag down from the new fangled round guardroom. Overall I did enjoy Lympstone but I can't say the same for the Depot as it was then, at Deal, that initial transition from civvy to fledgling bootie was not pleasant, but a dhobi girl might have helped. Got to say though that the standards foirced upon me then still stay true even today, clean shoes every day, shirts ironed (by me) to perfection, five minutes early to every appointment etc.
