Interesting post....agree with the sentiments expressed.
It's been a difficult few years, for a lot of reasons; I am willing to swallow a lot of things, but the one thing that I still get p"ssed about is the Early Release Scheme. All these scumbags back on the streets after good men died and others worked their arses off, to put them where they belonged.
My work took me to Warrenpoint the other week - I never worked in that patch during my service but it is an incident that always cut deep into my heart. I had always wanted to go there, and I stopped and just listened, looked around me and remembered the images. It was a beautiful day, and I took my lunch with the presence of good men around me. That may sound a bit strange to some, but among all that passes as 'truth' and 'progress' over here these days, for me it is the only like of this that has any real meaning or relevance. It was an experience that will stay with me for a long time.
The 'do-gooders' are bursting out of the woodwork, along with the 'old comrades' and the 'freedom fighters', all queuing up for their 'end of hostilities payout'.
Blood money. Our blood.
