Is WEA, Engineering Technician (WE)? Or am I just getting confused by similar initials?

I'm not wanting to be rude mate, but if you really are serious about joining the navy you need to start making a bit more of an effort. When you went to the AFCO they must have given you a booklet with all the different trades/jobs in. When you go for interview you will be expected to have learnt info from that booklet to prove that you are serious and willing to make an effort. I have my application form in and I am practising aptitude tests daily, running twice a week and running through interview questions daily with my parents. They will have given you the information you need - read it or you could get a big shock - they might not let you in!!

Adam I think its fair to say that by asking people who have served in the RN/ RM other forces the lad is in fact putting in some effort.

More of an effort? As the next poster has said asking experienced members of the forces is a way of gathering information. I have read ALL of the literature given to me at the AFCO as well as doing hours of individual research on the Royal Navy and it's history. I am fully aware of what is required of me at the interview.
I too am improving my fitness. I am running at least every other day and can feel myself getting fitter as I do so. I can also easily complete the sit ups/ press ups required in under half the allotted time.
As for aptitude tests I am continually testing myself and have been invited to a supervised IQ test by MENSA so I am pretty confident in that department.
And your final comment about the AFCO giving you the information you need. They give you some information but they are looking for people that go that extra mile, which I my friend am doing.
Rant over
By the way Adam1, good luck with your application, I posted mine today so I will be eagerly awaiting a response to find out when my interview is. I hope you hear back soon.
p.s Sorry for both the long windedness of this post and the rather rude manner of it. No offence intended.

Sorry I obviously have caused offence where none was intended. It doesn't sound like you will have a problem with the entry tests. Best of luck.

Oh well I'm hapy to do my bit no matter the job.
Then again I intend on impressing so much at my interveiw/aptitude that they will have no choice to put me in as an Admiral!

Sounds more like the are abolishing OMs, and training everyone up to tiff standards, except linked more closely to rate, so instead of doing all the training at the beginning, you one half at the beginning and the second half at killick->PO etc.

Heya. I'm currently in the process of applying for my dual nationality (Irish/English) because I was originaly going to put it for a submarine specialisation. According to the offical Royal Navy site, Dual Nationality holders are elligible for any enlisted rating except for MA(Subs) and MEM (Subs). All other sub ratings are open for dual nationality holders. As you can see, it pretty screws me up if I can't go sub and that's the reason i'm applying for dual nationality in the first place.

I was wondering if they've recently changed the nationality requirements or if you were trying to apply for MA(Subs) or MEM(Subs) and maybe that's why they said you did not fit nationality requirements? Obviously I need to give them a ring and find out if there is any point in me applying for dual citizenship in regards to job opportunities, didn't think I should enquire as of yet until I had my dual nationality in tow, so any info would be great.

This is the page on the Royal Navy official site I was referring to in regards to nationality requirements. GL with your app btw.

Thats very interesting, the nationality requirements I have been given are completely different to those, I shall have to speak to the careers advisor when I go for my aptitude test as my origional 2 choices were CT and WE Tiff Submariner but was told that due to my duel nationality I couldnt apply for those two.

Yeah it is interesting. Might be that the recruiter has certain quotas to push through for certain ratings so he's trying to streamline you into the ones which need the most manpower, doubt it though. If you find out nationality requirements have changed in regards to especially sub ratings give me a yell. Would like to know what ratings im elligible for before I head up to Palace Barracks, 7 P's and all that.
Also, did he tell you any definite ratings that you were elligible to sign on for?

Yes I was told that the best branches for me to apply to with my aptitude would be ME,WE or AET and particular emphasis was placed on ME. It is possible though that eligibility requirements have been changed in the last month after all when I went into the AFCO in the first week of Feb the above ranks were referred to as Artificer ranks (and the extended training etc was talked about in depth) whereas now the term Artificer is redundant. I maybe wrong on this so don't quote me.
