Didn`t know that the old bastard was still alive, never mind coughing to that.
It`s obvious when you look at both weapons, particularly the cavalry version( of the M.P.)
The Sovs aren`t new to the copying game by any means. A certain Mr Hiram Maxim( yes that Maxim) once tried to have them for copying his work. What pissed him off wasn`t that they copied it(they didn`t recognise copyrights then, probably still don`t) but that they had the neck to claim they invented it and Hiram nicked it off them!
Concordski, anyone?

A cartoon in the latest issue of "Private Eye" has a firing squad victim being asked for his last request, his reply is to ask for the squad to use the SA80. Clever eh?

The following was copied from a piece entitled 'Murphy's Laws of Combat' by Tim Grenville-Cleave in the quotes and anecdotes section of Once a Marine.

Guys, spent some time looking at alternatives, to that useless bang-stick, and came up with this:-
http://www.military.com/Resources/EQG/E ... at=w&lev=2
Click and drool, you will go all girly and wet. Pardon?
Military.com is one of Elmers finest, Websites that is. Jump in and take a look around. Use the "Home" symbol to get to the index, and definately "add to your favourites"
20mm airburst? Just what one needs when there`s a queue at the till in Tesco`s

On the verge of doing an underwater entry when some bastard beats me to it. If any serving members would like a crack, watch out for the world championships
If I was any good at ironing, I wouldn`t have had to get married :P :P :P

The gun on that site looks like something out of Terminator.
Probably doesn't work properly if you get sand in it or get it wet.
Looks the business though if a little back end bulky.

SHEEEIIIT there boy you caint put THAT stuff on a public acces website, why barely three years gone, that was classified Top Secret Information, there Harry.
Next y`all be showin the flip down helmet mounted site that comes with tv pictures so the weapon can be fired from cover or roun corners. Or the combined radio/computor thats in the helmet headlining complete with its own satuplink.Totaly discreet so nobodys got a signal to detect, even frum three metres away. Why, if the commies ever found out the signal is ultra narrow band and goes vertical to the satelite, we all be in the dawg shit. Any dog face using this system allows the brass in the Penthouse to watch V.R. pitchers from the smallest firefite and stick there noses in,man.Like, is that a good thing?
Yall dont talk about this stuff cause I`m sure its still T.S. jus like the steerable 20mm round (mini TOW) If`n you wants to e-mail me again Harry, we can surely talk in private there boy, but yall gots to stop putting this stuff on non- secure sites.

"if the commies ever found out"........Hmmm.
thats me told off, then
Did you ever meet Luke Skywalker?
Stand by for another e-mail, Septimus.
And Beasta(?)thanks for your considered opinion. It isn`t a gun.
Both of these weapons are available now. The HK(5 variant, I think) and the 20mm discharger are combined in this weapon together with advanced fire control to produce an assault rifle of tremendous firepower. Think of the damage a section could do :o
By the way, a K.E.round is one that relies on kinetic energy to do the bizz.
That`s an ordinary round then, apparently

Once had an opportunity to fire the old Brown Bess. Think they were .45 cal.
The routine goes like this.Hold the weapon upright with the stock resting on the ground. Pour the black powder down the muzzle using the powder horn. It has a mechanism to preset the exact amount of powder. Next, place a patch of rag over the muzzle and force the ball into the rag. Using the ramrod, force the ball down to the bottom of the barrel. Holding the weapon horizontal, fill the pan with powder. The weapon is now loaded, but won`t fire. i.e. Made Safe.
To fire, pull back the flint all the way, aim and pull the trigger. When you are used to pulling the trigger and getting an immeadiate response, what happens next comes as a surprise. Firstly, a shower of sparks as the flint engages the striker, then a huge flash as the powder in the pan ignites. Finally after quite a delay, a huge bang as the propellant finaly ignites in a huge cloud of black smoke. Took some getting used to, but I managed a decent group, eventually  Fair old kick as well.
But you knew all that already, Jim.
