Ianto, Gus still has all the typical town pubs, but ifyou haven't been there in a while you will see the difference.
The bridge at the end of Union St is down, and during the day the Strret is almost normal. ie safe to drive down.
Royal Parade and the rest of the streets built on the US style are still there and the concrete is as hard as hell on the feet.
The Barbican is OK and nice to walk down in the day but has, has been said a bit nosiy at night.
Out side if you were at Bickleigh, then the green cafe has gone way up market. But the Skylark is still there. The Lopes well?? you'll have to search for the old way in that you would remember.
Just go by gut feeling mate. and enjoy the trip.
Be interesting to find out where you did eventually go

Sad to say but t' antelope aint called that any more,
If it s the pub I think it is its now called Sippers (opposite the Duke of Cornwall Hotel on the corner of Millbay Road?)
Ianto
For something that still looks like it used to be in your day, you are better off venturing up to the moors to The Burrator Inn (£3.90 for a rump steak and chips. ask if John is cooking, if he is send out a pint if Stella to him with the compliments of your table number prior to ordering for a steak that hangs over the edge of your plate), The Royal Oak at Meavy (beware the midges if drinking outside) and the Skylark at Clearbrook. All boozers with a bit of charm and character.
In town try out the Barbican Arms at the bottom of Looe Street (below the Min), or the Kings Arms below Bretonside if you like it a bit on the rough side.
My personal preference is a halfers run through the many and varied establishments that can be found in Stoke Village. Homely pubs and reasonably priced beverages. (women a bit on the rough side though!).
