Hello everyone, my name's Joe, I used to use this forum when I was about 16/17, mainly reading but I posted a few times too. I originally wanted to join the Para's, then I wanted to join the RMR as I was interested in joining the ambulance service and there's an RMR base not far from me, however I then realised that due to commitments with the ambulance service, I might not be able to be a reservist, and thought I'd go for regular RM, and later specialise as a Medical Assistant. Got a headache? It gets worse...
So I applied for the Royal Marines late 2008, and spent the first half of 2009 in the application process, managed to pass everything first time, however I was worried about my PRMC, but after scoring quite well on an RMAD I was told I should be fine, and I believed I would be. So my PRMC came around (2nd June), and I failed the High Obstacles course (fell off it a couple of times, got terrible balance, and being scared of heights doesn't help much), and was taken off the Determination Test (was paired up with a bloke 3/4 stone heavier than me for the piggy backs and man drags (not an excuse I know, but that's why I think I failed it)). So I was given 9 months before I could retake it, and this gave me a lot of time to think about what I wanted to do. And I decided that I definitely still wanted to join the Armed Forces, but want to be a Medical Assistant first, instead of having it as a possible extra in the future.
So that was what's happened since I was last on this site, and after looking into medical assistants in both the Navy and the Army, I've decided I want to be a Combat Medical Technician in the Royal Army Medical Corps (yes I know, another change in regiment/unit/role).
So as I've spent most of the past year/18 months on a Royal Marine forum, there's a few things I'm not too sure about in regards to joining the Army.
1. I'm pretty sure you can't take your car to the base during phase 1 of training, but can you when you begin phase 2?
2. I've been training for the 1.5 mile run, with a 1.5 mile run of 12 minutes beforehand, as this was what's required for the Marines. However I am aware that at ADSC it's just a 1.5 mile run, preceded by a "warm up". I'm guessing this warm up changes slightly, but what does it generally consist of, and what are other members doing for it?
3. I've heard there's an opportunity to attempt P Company at a later date and join 16 Medical Regiment, is this one of those things everyone wants to do when they go for their interview but in reality it rarely happens, or is there actually an opportunity for you to attempt it? (This is not the only reason I am joining, I just saw it mentioned in the description, and was interested by it).
4. Are there many/any opportunities for peace keeping tours in countries in Africa aswell as deployments to Afghanistan? As both interest me.
Thank you to anyone who took the time to read all that,
and any comments or answers to the questions are welcome.
Joe

CMT is very popular expect to wait 12 months or so after ADSC to get a place

Most places allow cars at Phase 2 but be prepared for the privilege to be removed if you mess up

12 Minutes is fine for CMT although you need to realize ADSC is about effort as much as anything

You failed the confidence course on RMR but want to do P Company??

Cheers for the reply,
best to get my application in ASAP then if I'll be waiting around 12 months,
yeah 13:58 and throwing up is better than 12 minutes and not sweating,
granted I'm scared of heights but I didn't not attempt it,
I failed it through lack of balance,
and I'm thinking of taking up parkour or something similar to help with this,
I know you can't pick and choose tours,
but I know other than training purposes,
RM's who finish training will most likely go Afghanistan,
but I was just wondering as CMT is a different role to infantry if they have recently been sent anywhere else on deployments.

There is a specific thread for business promotion. Please refrain from digging up old posts just to get attention.

Especially when you link to an American website, quoting dollar salaries which haven't been updated since 2008...Amphibian wrote:Please refrain from digging up old posts just to get attention.

This is a great opportunity for them. I hope they will grab this one.
