Catteirck Infantry training.

Hello every one, long time since I've been on here.

Any way, whilst coming to the end of the CIC i found my self thinking how much of the training is actually relevant to the conflicts were found in today, I'm due to go Afghan in a week or so and I'm now asking this question to those who've gone before me the Old and bold and i usually get a mixed response. (This is not doubting the CIC just looking for opinions)

The usual answer I get is, yes various aspects of the training doesn't benefit the new soldier heading to Afghan, appart from patrolling drills contact drills (Basics) because Harbours are never really used and various position assaulting drills aren't either not to mention the training not touching on FOB drills or Mobile patrols.

I agree in some areas as after completing the CIC on September 4th i had the weekend of then had to go to OPTAG training and found my self sat between T.A and AAC and RAF and knowing F.A about Sangers, FOB Drills, DF Drills IDF drills, IED Drills and basically every thing I should know i didn't and had a week to 'JOT' notes about everything.

I'm curious to find out what others think as well and if the roumers of the CIC training program changing to teach more Afghan related subjects is true?

No CIC will not change that is the Base Infantry knowledge you need
OPTAG is relevant to THEATRE.

But you'd agree, for some one straight out of Catterick a week is to litle time to prepare for Afghan?

OPTAG is normally more than a week, you must also remember all the build up training you will have within your REGT as well.

reap it your in the british army thats the way things go stop flappin and enjoy it this is what you joined for you'll learn as you go along as most blokes do as no amount of pre operational training can really prep you for afghan ive found even if the training is suppsed to resemble afghan it is far from it i would have sold my soul to get to afghan week after training and passing out to 3 para

Agreed, I can't wait.. cr*ping my self but eager to get out there.

I just wanted to see what other people thought on the subject it's not so much a personal opinion from my self.

doesnt ring any bells depends how long he been in . yeah i agree with the depot training its still focused on the old stuff ie trench warfare and the rest of it but it is the hardest kind of infantry training in my opinion id rather be based in a fob and doin patrolls out of there than stuck in a shell scrape for a month but then again last year in afghan we did a op where we were in a shell scrape for a month in 52 degrees getting mortared .yey take me back

Reality hitting home by any chance, Optag will give the basics u need to no and ure battalion will give the rest + ure a sprog/crow so dont think just do as ure NCOs tell u too

Have to agree Text speak is just utter laziness in my opinion.
Would you write a letter that way??
No you wouldnt,
If your coming on a site to ask questions or comment on a subject, you should at least take time to write a piece of commentary that people can understand
Text speak is Exactly that, its for texting your mates not for writing on a website.

When we get get a new platoon of recruits here they have too write an essay on themselves on what they have done in the past what there aspirations are etc and i would say virtually everyone uses some sort of txt speak when they write it
